Sorry I'm a bit late but welcome and congrats.

These are nice little cars. I to was amaized after I bought my first one. Had no clue what I was really getting. I was amaized at how good of a car it was/is for an entry level car. I've sence learned alot about the car in the last 5 years of owning it and I still love it.

I've rented them in the past..first one I've owned and it's fantastic.  Great pickup...I've already done over 130 miles and I still have a quarter tank of gas left!...That's with 64K+ on the odometer.  Why is so much attention paid to the ZX3/ZX5 and SVT and hardly any to the basic sedan?

I think its a european and just compact thing. Over in europe the focus is a full sive car and you will see nor hatchbacks (in any beand) than anything else. They are versitile and for the compact sceen here in the states I think 2 doors are prefered over a 4 door and with a trunk.

also ford marketed the 2 door as the sport model. So even tho they are basicly the same the ZX3 has been dubbed the "sport" model and the ZX5 I think just followed suit due to the hatch.

I have owen both and still own my ZX3. They both handled the same and had the same power but I could fit more cargo into my ZX3 but getting passengers into the sedan was a lot easier.

Dan, for the love of pete, use your spell check!

Hey there flagcomm - welcome!

To expand on the ZX3/ZX5 & SVT model comments FX3 has noted - They call them 'hot hatches' and I think the appeal for me was the cargo room avail. in the hatch.

When I bought my first Focus 2k2 ZX3 - I had a 95lb Doberman and we'd just gotten rid of a '92 4Runner.  I didn't want to sacrifice cargo space for economy.

When I was in the UK for the millenium - winter 1999 and that is where I first saw the Focus and it was a hatch.  I fell in love instantly!  The smooth lines and modern look of the exterior and even the interior sold me immediately.

There is nothing wrong w/ a sedan - As FX3 said he's owned both and I've been able to drive the sedan - it was a Sony Explode Special Edition and it got fabulous mpg.  I just personally am partial to the overall looks and feel of the hatch.

Welcome to the board and hope you'll post often! :driv

we made it 220 miles from Kearney, Nebraska to Manhattan Kansas on a full tank and we had 1/4 left over...this was on a 01 focus se wirh 74k!!!!! Way better than the 11 MPG i was getting in my old GMC truck!

just a note - they are working on phasing out the hatches on the focus...the sedans are the larger seller.

Also, my 2k3 PZEV readily gets over 400 miles per tank and the most I've filled her was 13.8 gallons...pretty nervous when i saw that number I'll tell ya!
