My 2006 SES Wagon has a very annoying chime--Ford's word--more like a Tom cat with his tail caught in a screen door, when any position other than Park is selected and a door is opened.  Can this be deactivated?

This is very annoying when manouvering in tight places and opening the driver's door.

I think its a safety feature to let you know the door is open when the car is on and driving. Does it sound the same as when you turn off the car and open the door with the keys still in?

and why are you opening the door when you are parking? I adjust the mirrors to see down low if I need to get "that" close to somthing.

Yes, I am aware it is a safety issue. It is the annoying siren like sound the warning indicator makes that is the concern.  If it was a chime like the headlights left on signal it would be fine. It makes the same annoying sound whether the engine is running or not, as long as the key is in the run position and the gearshift is in any other position than park.I was able to deactivate the automatic door locking feature and I simply wondered if the gearshift warning alarm could be deactivated as well.

In some instances there is a blind spot when reversing, regardless of how the mirrors are adjusted. That is why on occasion I have to look out the door.

There must be somthing new with the 06's. THe 03 has 2 types of dings and they are real similar. a slow "ding..ding..ding" when doors open and keys in. a faster "ding.ding.ding" when doors open and headlights on but keys out. I also own 2 5 speeds and never an auto so it might be an "automatic" thing. I also don't know if you can disable it. If it isn't in the manual like the seat belt minder than you probably can't. But the dealer might be able to by going into the computer and programing it out of the system. Might be worth a call to your dealer.

Thanks for the reply.  It must be new for the 2006's or just for the Canadian market.  No problem listening to the chimes, but this thing is very annoying--a constant siren sound.  Will talk to the dealer.

I have to wonder if there is just a relay you could pull on it and be done w/ it, but then again...ford is known for their wiring configuration to be changed nearly every year on these cars.

Good luck, you'll have to let us know what the outcome is - You've piqued my interest!:driv
