I was under my car today putting on my neon underbody and this car just seems like a piece of junk IMO. I've owned a Ford or two in the past and this seems by far to be the cheapest one of them all. It seems like if I was ever in any sort of accident (knock on wood) I'd be in trouble. There is no support in the back or the front.
Oh well I just thought I'd comment on it since I was under the car and was able to have a good look. They used a lot of goop that turned hard, not sure what it is, but they used it everywhere. There is no support in the trunk either. Yikes!
When I put my system in I'm going to have to dynamat for sure, this car will rattle like a tin can.
Pretty much the same. I have an '02 ZX3. I don't have ICE, but I will say my car has never rattled or squeaked. Road noise is quite prominent, though. As for your comment about it being a cheap car........well, it is. I don't know of any Ford product for sale in the US that's less expensive that the Focus. In some of the more expensive models, e.g. the Fusion, the 500, the T Bird, things may be better.

It is a cheap car- however, an accident is very survivable in it. It is a safe car. You're not going to drive away from an accident, but you'll most likely walk away, and unless you're hauling major ass, you'll live.

The sedan is actually safer than the ZX3/5. It has 4 star front and rear. I am not sure about the sides.
I have seen 2 ZX3's totaled and the passnegers wanked away fine. I have also heard of a ZX3 that rolled due to its driver being drunk and he walked away also. It is a safe car. you may not see the bracings but they are there and the focus is also built kinda like a nascar where the body will brake and fall appart and take all the punishment so the passangers don't.
Like Fx3 said the front and back are made that way for a reason. They are called crumple zones. Basicly when you get into an accident the front or rear will cave in to absorb most of the impact. The car will be totaled but you will walk away.
audiojunkie should comment on this one, but i think you'll be surprised about the rattleing of subs. mine sound very very clean. nothing to rattle or anything. i might say the goop that they glue it all together with seals it up pretty nice with enough flex to absorb the vibrations without rattleing.

Hi Focus - Well here I am, the one that has managed to total 2 ZX3's and I can swear to you that they are VERY safe and I wouldn't have bought a second one if I didn't completely believe that.
This car is an entry level car, so it's not going to have chassis builds like an Audi or even a higher priced Ford.
It is meant to protect the driver and passengers, and as everyone else has said, the Sedan, as you have chosen, is the safer model. Of course the Wagon is also there with the sedan due to the way that it is built. Anyway - The ZX3 only rates a 3 for rear and 4 for all the rest. The sedan has 4 stars all around & if you have the side air bags you've done a little extra to help.
I'm waiting for the government to require SAB and Side Curtain Air Bags on ALL new vehicles...that way we don't have to keep guessing what is better and keep paying extra for safety...it should be an extra, it should be manditory...that is my opinion btw.
You have not bought a POS - and yes, if you think you can put stereo equipment into the trunk without making certain all if bolted down well you're mistaken, it will rattle - so will a whole lot of other entry level vehicles on the road, but you may be surprised.
Stop knocking the car or you're going to really set yourself up to hate it. It's not a bad car - it can be great fun...give it a chance.

Thanks for the pep talk and the encouragement in the vehicle. I guess I'm still havin' my withdrawls from trading in my Avalanche, which in my opinion out of about the 10 cars I've owned has been the best by far.
I am ok with the car and like I said before once I start getting my system and stuff back into it I'll prob like it even more.
