Ok, I know this is an old post.  The only way you would beat the Suby would be if the Suby was not racing.  The 2.5RS' power/torque stock for stock is far greater than that of the SVT Focus.  The RS would especially own you in a top speed highway race.  The SVT Focus' weight is lighter, but the RS will take the SVT any day.  Haha, sorry to bump up the very old post, but I'm cruising the forums and stumbled across this. I think its an older 2.5RS and they didn't have a turbo. I think even the new 2.5 Impreza's do not have a turbo in them.

I know the 2.5's don't have the turbo, but the base engine power (173hp/166tq), AWD and class="bodytext"3067 lbs. would hand it the advantage over the SVT (170hp/145tq), FWD and only 300lbs lighter.  I'd say the SVT would need more than just an intake to overtake the 2.5.  That's IMO so please no one take that the wrong way.  It's just in my experience from what I have witnessed, I haven't and can't see it (unless it was an older one).

correction... top speed is 155 mph... i did it

AND!!!  believe it...the 2.5 RS cannot beat the SVT on the highway.  yes on the dragstrip it the 2.5 rs will take the SVT due to the AWD, but on the highway, the RS has nothing.

All SVT Focuses are governed at 135mph. Did you buy your car new? It sounds like you may have an after market tune.

most svt will top at 147 due to resistance from the frontend design.

and it doesnt matter that the 2.5 rs has slightly more hp/tq. it being 300lbs more and awd would slow it considerably since there is alot of driveline loss in the rs due to the awd.
most svt consistantly put 152-160 whp down on the dyno.
some put alot more:P

manual fwd have about 15% driveline loss
manual awd are in the neighborhood of 35% due to alot of rotating parts.

one thing people forget alot are that hp/tq numbers are flywheel, not wheel. once drietrain loss is taken into account a higher hp car can actually put considerably less to the ground than you'd think.
