Well Joe was stopped on the way home from a tint G2G. Steve had just placed 50% film on his windows. Joe's car passed the trooper's 'inspection'.
The state gives you a +/-, and I think it's enough to make 50% Maine 'legal'. I'll get ahold of Steve & ask.

Thank you, money is hard for me because I been off of work for 2 months with a shattered shoulder.  I wouldn't be happy to spend 110 and have to peel it off. :(

How big a fine is it if you get stopped without certificates? (And illegal tint obviously). I talked to a few cops from my area and said that my boss's girlfriend's brother's best friend's neighbor's nephew is thinking about getting really dark, and would they stop "him" for it? They all told me that they honestly don't give a shit but that a state trooper might think otherwise. So how big a fine would you think?

The fine isn't the point so much as the fact that they can make you peel it right there and then. You won't pass a state inspection without the certificate, and if you car is stickered and you don't have the certificate they'll make you peel it. If you were driving a granny wagon, they probably wouldn't bother you, but if you plan on doing anything else to your car that might draw attention, they are going to use that as more reasons to make you peel. Think of it this way.

You tint your car and it's below 35%... Cost we'll say around $100 bucks.

Get pulled over cop makes you peel it. Or fines you for driving with a false inspection (costly) and still makes you peel it.

Now you are out at least $100, not to mention you've got no tint.

I have 50% film on mine, and I registered a 44% on the side windows and a 40% on the rear window (apparently it was darker to begin with who knows). Either way, I was legal at this since you have to be above 35%. If you use 35% film, you will fail any meter test. Your choice, but don't complain if you have to peel it. You know the law.

Also... If you have to peel it on the side of the road you can also say good by to your rear defroster because that will be coming off with the tint... (just a warning)...

Buddy... Is Steve gonna bring his meter??? 2 part meter I hope, to check rear windows..

Thank you Joe - Very good info from an experienced tinted Maine Vehicle. :driv

All of this confuses me...

So what tint would I want to get with a 2005 Focus ZX4.

The laws and confusing of myself is the reason I never tinted any of my previous cars.

50% film on all windows except your front windshield, but I would ask Steve (the tint man) to meter your windows to be certain. ;up

35% tint - $100, pulled over and peel tint, get fined...costly but all the memories, priceless....

I think the best way is to get a letter from your physician or optometrist to say you have a light-sensitivity issue and must have a real dark tint and tint as dark as you want...

Steve wil be bringing the meter from work. I remind him each time I talk to him. He doen't have the 2 part meter for the non-opening windows. Just the one that slips over an opened window.

The limit in Maine is 50%, but the yield (+ or -)for metering is 15% according to info we had rceived in the past. So technically IF it meters at 35% then it could be considered 'legal'. You can't go with a 35% film because that will bring you below the possible maximum yield.

They'll only say if they think it's illegal, and that's typically up to the judgement of the police officer.  Either way... why couldn't this have been this weekend, I'm stuck out in Buxton cat sitting all by myself and I'm friggin' bored.

Ok, just need some clarification. It's ok for me to run the 35% tint for my car? I will only have the three windows tinted. So this should be legal for me to run correct? Cause I dont want to get in trouble from the police for this. Thanks in Advance. I did check the link that was posted for legal limit on tinting for NH. Just want to make sure.

I still need to know who has what car & what tint % & state. I need to know ASAP.

Here the a list of who is getting their window's tinted.

2- Phil (FokuzPhil)(MAYBE)
3- Chris (sveet03)
4- Alec (Alec) ZX3 - 20% all around - Maine
5- Heber (Mr. SVT's bro)
6- Jim (JRobertson) x2
7- Trogson friend from work
8- Sleazye2000
9- Chris G. w/ an Acura Integra 2dr getting 35% all around- Maine

Do we have any alternates that want to come up for tint? IF there's time, Steve will do other cars.
