7/29/04 - Can't tell what time, maybe 5pmish - Dan and I were in his black ZX3 - I want to say we were coming from Portsmouth West to Concord (what road I don't know...dan can't remember and I was lost - backroad anyway!) Black SVT, with a hood scoop and a young guy (maybe route 4?). You looked right over to us and we smiled, you smiled and drove off.

spotted:
faded, red crap box
with a poorly installed over-size cat-back.
you:
four frat-boys who thought it was a good idea
to pass me on the left
as the left lane was being forced to merge
to center by a jersey barrier
during rush hour traffic.
i:
was the guy in the sonic blue SVTf
who flipped you the bird
as i was forced to drive between you
and the SUV to my right.
you:
thought you could keep up
as i sped off when the 3rd lane re-opened
but discovered your suspension and tires
really couldn't handle an off-ramp at 65m/h.
i:
laughed the rest of the way home
as you got further and further behind me.
[off topic, i know, but i had to vent somewhere.
its not everyday you literally have to make a choice
between having the car accident about to happen
just so you can wipe the smirk of the face of the punk
who thinks he's a tough guy for running you off the road
or
down-shift, strattle the white line, and go.]

DUDE! i just saw that today while i was on a wild goose chase looking for bricks!! it also has the SVT front bumper and grille. it really does look good.
I stoppped yesterday to havew a look at it, i saw the same one on Broadway in Derry parked on the side of the road, looks like they sold it. Its alright, its just a ZX3 with the SVT front and rear (kind of decieving) and WW side skirts. It has some yellow painted interior which looks good and a centered dual tipped exhaust! almost looks like a mini cooper exhaust. Oh also the SVT grill and those bad ass Hellas that are unmistakable. Im wonderin the pricetag on it.
Dan, I also stopped and looked yesterday morning. The thing that I found funny is that car is still registered until Feb. 05 and the plates are still on it?~?~?~ Does look good though!
Also: Spotted a liquid Grey ZX3 heading north on 93, rims, dark tint, and i couldnt tell if there was an exhaust. I was heading South yesterday morning at about 7:30am...

only the Cooper S has the dual center exhaust.
the basic "Mini" has a single, side pipe.
according to Motortrend,
there's going to be a Mini Convertible real soon.
given that we've seen recently go drop top
- New Beetle
- PT Cruiser
- Mini
and the Cabrio has been a long-time VW model,
i have to wonder how long it will be
before Ford tries a Focus hatch-model convertible...
then again,
it took them 3 years
to figure out the car _demanded_ a sun roof...

Anyone?
the infamous 2003 "european appearance" SVT's
came only in "screaming yellow" and "competition orange".
i don't think any others did.
i don't know if you can get any other model focus
in either of those colors
(the yellow for base models is "egg yolk").
since they only made 4000 SVTf's that year,
and the EA's were even a limited set within that,
its not surprising you haven't seen too many.
i don't think they were offered in '04.
the other exterior distinguishing feature
is that they have the multi-spoke wheels
from the ST170 (european model only)
rather than the 5 spoke cobra knock offs.

after looking at the Mt Washington g2g i noticed that is is Pokes that people always used to call me about mistaking for me!!!!! I cant even count how many people would call up saying they just passed me and so on over the course of like 2 years. This was when i had no body kit and my Team Dynamic Monzas on that were white (very similair to your rims pokes). When i saw the pics of your car it was like flashback mania, but let me say you have very good style!!

Thanks man!! Only thing is, i have only had those rims for about 2 weeks now Sorry for killing the excitment there
Oh... and about the SVTs... there is a yellow on in Portsmouth too. I see him every couple of days on South St between 4-5 on my way home from work. He goes down Miller Ave too... i have tried flaggin him down... but I think he thinks im just a loony or something

tiff - i spotted that sedan with the "recaled" plate before too...it's somewhere in this thread
and now kinda off topic... but anyways
jhimm - yeah - the new european focus (c1 based) is scheduled to have a convertible version around 2006 (at least that's what i read a while ago)
as for the european appearance svt focuses - you're right - for the 2003 model year, it was only available in screaming yellow and competition orange. for the 2004 model year, it was offered on any svt focus and any color - including the 5 door... (although i'm not sure any yellow or orange svt 5 doors were made). someone did post in FJ about his orange svt with the european appearance package that it was only 1 out of 40something made.

according to this thread http://teamfocus.mywowbb.com/forum21/286.html
there were ~250 yellow and ~300 orange in 2003,
all E.A. models.
no numbers for 2004
to know whether they offered yellow or orange
on non-E.A. models or if they offered E.A. models
and how the 5-door option played into that.
i've been beating on google and can't find anything
more up to date,
the svt.ford.com website never got updated for 2004.
i do keep finding a lot of articles
about the Neon SRT-4
and how much better it is than the SVT
which strikes me as a frustrating comparison,
since one is a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder
and the other is a turbo-charged 6 cylinder.
call me old fashioned,
but i don't really think of 6 cylinder cars
as being "sport compact".
if they can offer that much "omph" for the same $
that just means they're cutting corners -somewhere- else.
oops... i'm rambling again.
sorry.

Rob G wrote: um, the srt-4 is a turbocharged 4 cylinder - hence the 4 in "srt-4"
then the article i was just reading
was even more daft than i thought.
they kept going on
about how the new protege and the svtf
were only available in 4 cylinder options
so they clearly were lame
given that all three hover in the $20k range.
