Im going to be ripping apart this brand new virgin zetec, building it, and then swapping my entire powertrain and installing a turbo system. Are there any how-to's wanted by anyone? I plan on taking pictures of the progress but if there is something specific anyone wants, let me know so I can do it. :)

unplug the VSS located on the top/back of the differential. it does pull a little timing though.

2 votes for cam work? you guys are hung up on cams? ok.................. will do.  seems pretty straightforward to me but if thats what you want, I will deliver. one question though, whats the hang up? is it determining tappets and measuring lash and bind or just general install procedures?

I think if you can, any type of how to on components etc. would be a huge asset to this site's how to.

Something fresh, well done and detailed.

yes, those as well, but...I'm assuming, and we know what that makes me!

Anywho - I'm assuming most of your components like Alternator, Pwr Steering Pump etc. will need to be added.  I may be wrong.  I'm not sure what has come w/ this engine you've purchased.

But to show where they are, what seals etc. may be used and what the older ones may look like after wear etc.

Just a thought....

What types of lubricants will you be using

well, Im removing the power steering and alternator brackets for powdercoating so I can take some pics and do a small write up. the alternator is not included in the crate motor and I havent installed the one I got from caleb yet. I can prally knock that out this weekend.

The ones I am planning for right now are:

front and rear seals, camshafts seals and gears, valvetrain, main bearings and caps, rods pistons and rings, timing belt, clutch, powertrain swap from SPI to zetec, turbo install, oil pump install.

hoping maybe for piston squirter install too.

and chelly, I will be using the vatozone brand 59c a quart oil.:P

Well I will say TXFO you have a unique opportunity with a fresh motor and doing a build up.  I will agree with Chelly in all that she is asking.  I think something from all that stuff would give those people that may not necessarily afraid to do the work themselves, but dont know where to start, a detailed guide to go by.  It may seem basic to someone used to getting under the hood, but for someone just starting out it can be a gold rush of info to just have some pictures and what proceedure to follow.

As for thst cams.  I have never in my life done any work regarding cams or cam gear.  Since Im looking at doing Stage 1 cams and cam gears, I would be especially interested in knowing how to lock the cams in place and removing them, how to put them back in, how to install the cam gears, how to check everything is done right and anything else that may be involved.

Ive been told that if they are locked into place when they are removed I can just drop the new ones in, Ive read they need to be degreed and about everything in between, so Im wanthing to get the facts now.

If you make a CD that has all those how-to's on it with good detailed instructions and pictures, let me know.  I would buy one just to have it around for reference.  Its always a good thing and a bonus when you can get someone elses perspective.

As much as I like making money, I would just post them on TF. maybe rok could burn it and sell it.

as far as cams go, what I know right now about the zetec cams is that there is a blanking hole you insert a pin into to lock everything down. the camshafts themselves should have a keyway so that the gears only go on one way and are therefor ready to align. I will of course post everything I find out on the way. :)

I should have some rolling in next week. maybe I'll do the waterpump if I have time.

also planning on replacing head gasket and studs with ARP studs.
