I was wondering if anyone new a good way to adjust your engine belt, cause mine is making a horrible sound when my car is in the 2g-3300 RPM range and it is driving me nuts.....i pushed down on the belt while it was running with a pece of plumbing pipe and it went away....so i am thinking it is to loose....does anyone know how to adjust it? Any help would be great thanks ahead of time!

You cant adjust the tension on the serpentine belt.  It is set automatically by a belt tensioner.  If the belt has been on there for sometime, it is most likely the belt has either stretched out enough to be loose or has become glazed over on the 'traction' side of the belt and is allowing the pullies and such to slip.

The belts arent all that expensive, Id replace it if its been on there a while.  I try to replace mine at a minimum of every two years.  If I think about it, I'll replace it before then.  I have first hand experience at what a broken serpentine belt can do to a motor.  Its usually not a big deal, you just dont go anywere because you will probably first notice the motor overheating or voltage issues.  But, it can get worse than that.

If the belt hasnt been on there for a long time, you may need to look at the belt tensioner, it could be weak or broken.

watch your knuckles. Ive busted mine pretty good trying to move that tensioner. get as long a wrench as you can, makes it easier.

might want to replace the tensioner also. It may not be the belt thats loose.
