my 2000 focus station wagon will only start when it's jumped. i've tested the battery and alternator and they both seem to be working. in fact, the battery is new. i bought it two months ago.
i suspect there may be a short somewhere. any suggestions?
Do you mean boosted with another battery or jump started, push the car up to speed and then engage the clutch?
If it is the former then possibly the ground from the battery since you'd be boosting to the positive battery terminal but connecting the negative booster cable to the body.
I had to replace the ground cable on mine back a couple of years ago since it was pretty much gone.
