I love my car after claybarring, (not that I don't any other time but). I will say that you had better be dedicated to your car though if you want to do this, because it will take a while, but well worth the time.

The results are amazing and I'll never forget the shine!
Yes, a good amount of sleep is probably a good idea before getting into it, but it is SO worth it. Never thought my old car would look so good again, but even a few months later he is still shinyer than he has been in years... and so smooth

A clay bar is an abrasive pad that has the consistency of light modeling clay. You rub you car with it, using a detailing spray for a lubricant. Mother's makes a good clay bar/ detail spray combo. You can get one at any autoparts store like Murray's or Advanced. Most K Marts & Walmarts have them, too.

I had NEVER heard or tried a clay bar until getting my Focus and then only learned about it from Team Focus. I used it last year about this time and its WAY past due. I need to do that soon cause my three days off a week are about to go into the history books.
I can only say, if you want a TRULY clean car, its an absolutely necessary to use a clay bar.

It whines a lot, but I like it
It is actually good to clay bar at least 2 times year (more if you have the ambition).
If you show your car - each time you wax for a show you should clay bar.

Typically I do a full on clay bar twice a year. I tend to do my front end a few times a year and sometimes around the wheel wells if tar kicks up or something.
The trick is to do a really good job once, do a really good job waxing with several coats and keep it clean with regular washing, detail spraying and avoiding parking under things that can stain and damage your paint.
Thank you for your compliment by the way...that's so very nice. I wish it was in better condition, but I've just not had the time or the ambition this year. Maybe now with the increase in pay (when I start doing OT) I'll be able to spend a little more money on something that will make it more interesting. My rims are on, so I need to get the SVT suspension now.

I've been very bad on my new ZX3 - She has only seen a partial Clay barring since I bought her in Jan 2005.
she's getting a clay barring, clear coat levelling and several coats of wax this spring/summer though - once I have some time for myself.
I love claybar and yes, your arms can get tired easily...I can also see how you can get a good claybarring down to an hour - only if you keep up on it.
if you've never claybarred your car before, you'll really get a workout...there is a lot this stuff pulls from your clearcoat...you'd be shocked.
not to mention, I'm just way too meticulous when it comes to cleaning my car.
