No matter what kind of cleaner you're using, you'll get better results by using a terrycloth towel. T shirt material is no good either. When cleaning, I use horizontal motions on the inside, and vertical motions on the outside. That way, if you get a streak, you'll instantly know which side it's on.

Great idea about the horizontal and vertical, that is pretty keen thinking. For those of you with Tint...do NOT, I repeat..DO NOT!!! use windex, or any other cleaner with ammonia in it on the tinted side of your window...unless you are going for the purple color tint. Ammonia will alter the tint and cause it to fade into that purple color tint that you see on old 1986 Toyota Tercels . Use a non-ammonia containing cleaner, Stoner makes a nice foaming window cleaner, I would highly recommend for cleaning tinted windows. Just looking out for all the tinted amongst us.

There are many ppl. out there who suggest using newspaper (basic black and white) to clean windows. I personally have not had success with this method, but it is all subjective.
I use VIVA paper towels - they have a nearly cotton feel and I have had excellent results. I have also been known to use terry towels as well.
Basically, what this all comes down to is personal preferences - these threads are for reference and ideas...please share all that you know and have done that you've had both good and bad results.
Bonus note re: the towels - when detailing any part of your car - the towels you use should be designated for just that task and not washed OR dried with fabric softener. This leaves a residue that will smear and streak and react in some cases, with the products you are using on your car.
Keep the ideas, suggestions and questions coming folks! I love it all!!!!

Invisable Glass by Stoner, comes out foamy. spray on glass and Use one terry towel to clean then another to polish. A micro towel works even better for a final wipe down. for the inside tinted windows i spray a little on the towel. clean the window then polish with a clean towel. use very light pressure on tinted windows. works great.

I decided to try Stoners, and I really like it a lot. IMO, it's the best I've found yet.

I actually buy this stuff in bulk if anyone is interested in buying some from me, feel free to let me know (PM me) and I could deliver locally or if you really want it, I can ship it if you can't find it near you!
Love it...but I have to try the newspaper trick still. Do you crumple it up really well till its soft or just a bit?

The Newspaper is the best thing to use. It has been passed down from generation to generation, and I think is still the best thing to clean glass with.

I've heard this for decades now, but no one has answered my question - do you just crumple up and wipe or do you make sure you've 'softened' the paper by crumpling up really well and unfolding etc?
Thanks everyone!

if you smoke, use paper towels and gass cleaner first to clean the haze, and then again with the newspaper.
your glass will sparke! the fibers in the paper actually wick the dirt and cleanr away, while also polishing.
I'm going to try this today. My windows are a mess. The humidity seems to have really made a mess of them. I've been battling a 'film' on them for months this summer.

Just an update - I just had my windows tinted & the installer recommended to use a mix of baby shampoo (1oz) & water (1 qt) with Bounty Paper towels. He's been tinting for 25 years & said this seems to be the best to avoid any scratches on the film.
He said don't use amonia (well we all know that) but he also said don't use vinegar either.
Yeah vinegar makes sense... I wouldnt really wanna risk putting any potential harsh substances on the tint- ammonia and vinegar are pretty nasty!
I use this great glass-cleaning MF I found. It's gt a tight, kinda square weave, it's Excellent for glass, no streaks, spots, nothing! I'll use it with non-ammonia window cleaner if the car's really grimy, but otherwise I just use water, for the Focus and my apartment windows, mirrors... etc.
I've used newspapers, but I find them annoying. The crumpling, the ink on your hands (even though it Somehow doesn't get on the glass?!), and of course when you don't subscribe to the newspaper it's less readily available too!
