Okay, wanna try something different and definately less expensive? Try detailing your engine bay with pledge. You heard me correctly, pledge furniture polish.
I was lurking on some other boards not related to the Focus and was looking through some of the tips and stuff and someone was talking about detailing with pledge. At first I thought they were completely nuts. But curiosity got the best of me and I took my can of orange scented pledge out to the garage and began to go to work.
I didnt get the whole thing detailed like I normally would, but I have to say that I am impressed. It does a wonderful job in loosening the dirt and build up stuff and of course dust and dirt. Now it doesnt leave the blinding sheen that Armor All and others leave by any means, but it does a remarkably good job at cleaning. The benefit is that pledge should be better at keeping dust from building back up which means less time detailing and lets not forget the price, much cheaper than other automotive products.
While I didnt power wash everything before detailing, I would say you would get much better results if you did. However, if you need to just do a quick detail, I think this is the answer. Even if you were going to spend time at it Pledge seems to be a wonderful alternative unless you want that sheen that other products can give. Me personally, Id just rather it be clean and not have to do it as often.
Well thats that. Now Im off to see if another tip I learned about will be as effective. If it is, then I think EVERYONE here will love it and I'll make another post if it works out.

You can spray it on the rag you're going to use, which will work, but you can also spray directly onto things like the hoses, valve cover and such and let it sit a while. Doesnt make it shine any more, but will help loosen up any stubborn patches of dirt.
