My girlfriend's new suv (well new to us anyway) got keyed from bumper to bumper on both sides about a week ago. You can imagine how happy that made us. But anyway nothing can be done about that now. Is there anything that can be done to hide it or make it a least little less noticeable? Touch up paint or something?? It was used in part as an off road vehicle so it has it's fair share of scratches but this is just more then I can bare to look at everyday.

I HATE to hear stuff like this. I gave a 14 year-old a denention a few years ago, and he keyed my (then) Explorer from bumper to bumper on 1 side. $1000 worth of damage.
If it's not real deep, I'd try some of the commercial products that have been mentioned. There's also something called Scratch-out (I think). I'm at work, so I can't check right now. It comes in a yellow plastic bottle. You might also try some wax with some abrasive in it. Use a power/orbital buffer if you can find one.
You might also try some Bon Ami. It's a kitchen scouring powder like Clorox or Ajax, but it's much less abrasive. Dilute with water a rub a bit. Gotta be careful with this, tho. It's possible to rub through the paint if you get too energetic. Test in an small, inconspicous area 1st.

Is the scratch down to the metal? Primer? Surface scratch. If its to the metal than all the scratch products probably won't work and touch up paint is your best bet or even a spray can of touchup paint. you will still see the undent of the scratch with touchup paint but it won't rust as quickly as not having anything on it.
I would be real careful about using anything that would be considered abrasive. The paint isn't the issue it's the clear coat. I learned the hard way with de-badgeing the back hatch of the car. Even fingernail polish removal was bad for the clear coat. But if you want to something abrasive I would go with a real mild rubbing compound. It will make the scratch look less noticable but ensure you put a couple coats of wax over the areas you use the compound on right away.
Too bad we can't fire their asses up with a paddle anylonger. When I was in school, you had several days to comtemplate what you had done wrong and the consequences(that was for chewing gum), cause your butt hurt that long, especially the wooden paddles with holes drilled through them.
I have an interview tommorow for another teaching position at a small rural H.S., 600 students compared to 2,000 plus kids, mainly from the ghetto and barrio. A rough tough H.S., I'm getting to old to put up with their disrespectful manners and poor social skills(see no descriptive adjectives) LOL. Just a product of their environment!
I honestly thought I'd never hear myself say this, but I really believe that when corporal punishment ended, we started losing control. IMO, it's been pretty much downhill since then.
Break a leg on that interview.

Hi Maxx
How deep is the scratch? Different approaches needed depending on depth.
If it's not through the base coat you can buff it out. Whatever you do, if you use a buffer make sure that you use it in a clean inside place.

Good luck with the interview.

Corporal punishment might work sometimes. Huge downside if abused. We could have a long chat about the results of a kid being unjustly punished and the very unfortunate long term results.....

It's pretty deep I think. Down to the primer at least. You can run your fingernail across it and feel it (if that gives you guys any indication on how deep it is) It's not extremely noticeable because of the many superficial scratches already present but it's differently the worse one. I think I'll try that gs-27 and see where that leaves us.
Thanks for the welcome back guys. I've missed it here. Still no home computer but the library will have to do for now.
And yea got a new love in my life. Been just a little over six months with her. We're doing better then any relationship I've ever had. I can honestly say I love her with all that I am and that's really cool. Sounds cheesy I know but it's true! Lots of new changes in my life actually. Not all good but all necessary.

It's best used very, very sparingly...only after all other options have been tried. IMO, it's kinda like the nuclear deterrent. It's the threat that it could possibly happen that counts. The existing situation is that the kids know that they will face few, if any at all, consequences that are meaningful to them. And they are correct.

In today's world and school environment, it's just not worth the potential lawsuits. Two wrongs don't make a right but some how the disciplinary system is just not very effective. Many parents look at schools as a method to babysit their kids but in many cases the childs behavior is a direct reflection of their home life. As an educator in today's litigious society your damned if you do and damned if you don't. In my H.S. days I received 1 lick by my coaches paddle and those guys, if they were really mad would try to lift you off the ground when the lick was applied. As a teacher if you are accused of, lets say," the improper touching of a student" you might as well resign even if your totally innocent. Today's H.S. students know this, so teachers have be very careful, if you piss off a student, potentially there goes your career. You can't/shouldn't even pat your student on the back for doing good work, that's truly sad. The system is pretty F'ed up. Now you see why there are teacher shortages and this is just the legal side of the job, poor salaries and working conditions are the other. Not all public schools are like this. This is why I'm trying to get a job at a smaller school in a more rural area. Parents are much more accesible in this type of situation and most kids do show repect towards their elders, teachers and principals because their home environment(most cases) is better and not near the problems with gangs. Most students in rural area schools, know that they're in more touble when the get home also. In a small town, everybody knows everybodies business, so your social standing and family image is very important, this is the way thing used to be 50 years ago, when there was a more stable family oriented lifestyle environment (this was normal average, I'd say 75% of the time) then. Today's fragmented families it takes 2 people working to have a decent lifestyle. There is just, less communication in todays families because, 2 parents working are generaly too tired or just don't care enough to take an interest in help their kids with homework. I can see the mistakes I made, with my two step sons from my first marriage in this area. A single parent is just hanging own trying to keep her(most of the time)/his sanity.
In many cases large urban H.S.'s are a three ring circus and more like a little city with all the same social problems.
I think we have gotten slightly of thread topic here!
