I know everybody has some detailing tricks, that can make the work go faster, easier & better.
Here's a couple of mine:
1. I always wash the car from the top down. I use 2 wash mitts - 1 for the roof down to the door trim strip. I use the second one from the trim down and the wheels. That's where most of the dirt and grit that produces scratches and swirls is. That way, if there are any marks, at least they stay on the bottom of the car, where they're less noticable. I wash the mitts after ea. use, & also rinse the bucket thoroughly & let it dry upside down.
2. I always wax the car from the bottom up. While I'm waxing the doors, bumpers, etc., I use my hands to lean against the car, putting fingerprints all over it. When I work from the bottom up - no problemo.
3. When waxing, if I'm using Armor-All or Back -to-Black, I always apply that 1st for the same reason in # 2.
4. I like to let my tires dry a bit before applying Armor-All, so I dry the whole car 1st, including the wheels. I cut a circle out of a cardboard box that is the exact size of my rims. If you don't have a compass, (I don't), an easy way to do this is to get a small stick, (like a yard/meter stick), and drive a small nail through it. Hold the nail at the center of the wheel & mark where the edge of the rim is. Drive the 2nd nail through there. You can then lay the stick, points down, on the cardboard & draw your perfect circle. Once I had the circle cut out, I punched a hole in the middle of it for my fingers. When I spray the tires, I just hold the cardboard circle against the wheel. That way the wheels stay clean.
5. When I clean the windows, (my least favorite job, especially the inside), I use horizontal strokes on the inside and only verticle strokes on the outside. That way if you get any streaks, it's easy to tell which side they're on.
