For 1 thing, the distances there are relatively short. The states are small, except for Maine, but only part of Maine is actually populated. In the midwest, it can often mean a 4-5 hour drive at 65mph, just to reach a state border. That conspires against g2g's, unless you're lucky to find someone close to you.
