The Bush admin published some results of "the war on terror" that cast them in a very favorible light. Turns out they were just a, (ahem), little bit off. Secy of State Powell said they were published based on the best info they had from the, (ahem), intelligence agencies. So Powell said they are changing the results based on their new information. Does this mean Bush is waffling, or is that something only democrats can do? Of course, incompetence and just plain lying also come to mind here.

I think any information from a politician has gone way past "spin" and into outright lying. There really is no other way to put it, and it's really sad. I have absolutely no trust or faith in our government at all anymore. Not that I had a lot before, but Bush and his entire administration has killed any lingering trust I had. America really needs help right now, and I have serious fears about the future of America if this administration gets another four years to mess things up.
Everyone thinks America will last forever. The Romans thought that too. Their empire lasted many centuries, but it too crumbled. There are a LOT of rather disturbing similarities between our young America and pre-fall Rome. I'm not saying something huge will change any time soon, but I am saying that we as a government AND as a people need to make some positive changes very soon if we want to see our way of life continue.

Oh, I could not agree with you more! When I hear anyone in politics mention the word "Ethics" I throw up a little in my mouth! There is no place for a one of them to use that term! Not one!
Spin is a PC term (note that that phrase itself is to laugh about "Politically Correct" - MY ASS!). It's all become a corporate entity - all of it. There is no dignity out there in politics anymore. I will say one thing - the Media doesn't help!
As for America being compared to Rome - I don't think so - There are those of us - multitudes of us, who wouldn't let it get to that. Even though our country won't take me in the armed forces due to my health, I would do my damndest to keep what I have.

Five surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on
The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table
because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."
The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything
inside them is color coded.
The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best;
everything inside them is in alphabetical order."
The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers.
Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the
end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would.
But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed: "You're all
wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no
heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are
interchangeable.

As the President is getting off the helicopter in front of the White House, he has a baby pig under each arm.
The Marine guard snaps to attention, salutes, and says: "Nice pigs, sir!"
The President replies: "These are not pigs, these are authentic Texan Razorback Hogs. I got one for VP Cheney, and I got one for Defense Secretary Rumsfeld."
The Marine again snaps to attention, salutes, and replies, "Nice trade

Because I need to laugh. Some of the absurdity around me would either make me go totally nuts or get very angry. I'd rather elicit a laugh and perhaps take a shot that way than go off on a rant. Sometimes helping people laugh at something that is tragic lets them focus on it with a rational perspective instead of being overwhelmed by what can seem to be insurmountable obstacles.
