OMFG!!!!!!! It turned out to be Ronald Reagan.     ;spooked   Remember the trickle down that never happened? I can't believe that people actually voted for that right wing, union-busting asshole. They chose him over George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, etc, etc. This country is seriously fucked up! It's no damned wonder assholes like "W" get elected. What the fuck are people thinking???????????        ;tim;:what ;tim;willy

I think it comes down to the age of those voting and the whole thing with the media and people felt they "knew Ragen better" because he was in for 2 terms and constantly on TV. I didn't watch to much of the program but I don't think they showed any of the questionable or bad things all these peopple did.

I personaly say it should have been someone from the past like Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson because without them who knows where we would be right now. Definantly not the way things are now if they wern't around.

I think Ron Reagan himself was kinda thrown by that one, in his brief teleconference interview bit.

I don't think Reagan should've won, maybe not even in the top 5. I'm a little too young to fully remember his time in office, all I really know are the soundbites of the stuff he did.

I think he won because A) he died recently B) Americans have a short attention span and he's the most contemporary of the top 5 C) he was an "international" figure for Americans... as opposed to say King who helped black Americans, but didn't have international ties?! (I heard someone in the Reagan camp on the show say something along those lines).

I was pulling for Franklin myself, I think we're still way too close to Reagan to be in any way impartial... kinda the way Matt Lauer openly admitted he didn't want the winner to be someone still living... I think Reagan's recent death puts him in the same category, if nto a better one, than the living. Like the way people were angry if anyone brought up Reagan's past mistakes shortly after his funeral, like that's disrespecting the dead...

I think the "experiment" was interesting, and somewhat pathetic. The fact that No artists were in the top 100 and like 1/3 were celebrities... god Americans as a mass are MORONS. I think parts of this last show touched on that point, though a little more tongue-in-cheek...

Apparently, there was a TV show that ran abbreviated bios of about 100 famous Americans. TV viewers were asked to vote on their choice of the "Greatest American." Over the course of several weeks or so, the choice was narrowed down to 5 or 6 candidates. Reagan won.  ;down  ;down

Yup, Ronald Raygunzap. Greatest American. Every time I go to an airport I just get such warm feelings and fond memories of him.
Managed to turn a substantial surplus into a deficit as well.
Of all the Americans to choose from.. incredible achievements in science, aviation, law, politics, human rights, medicine and so many other fields.
Unfreakinbelievable!
