Fear of world chocolate shortage

The price of chocolate bars could soar if diseases that have devastated South America's cocoa crops are allowed to spread to other parts of the world, a scientist has warned.
Dr Gareth Griffith, of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, fears that fungal infections are poised to trigger an international shortage of chocolate.
Britons are the largest consumers of chocolate in Europe, munch through £3.5 billion worth each year.
Writing in Biologist magazine, Dr Griffith, an expert in fungi, warned that greater international trade and travel increased the chances of the diseases turning up in Africa.
Penny Hawley, of the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionary Association, said: "This does need to be taken seriously."
First time I've actually responded to something like this.
I'm now a confirmed hoarder. Ther just are not any alternatives to chocolate. Just put in my order.

Well, do they grow cocoa in America? Didn't think so. So you're supporting foreign nations, and those foreign nations may not be diligently fighting terrorism, so you do the math. Commie!! Wow, with circuitous and paranoid logic like that I could probably get a job with the Bush administration... but why the hell would I want to do that!

Because you could then have a justifiable reason to "liberate and democratize" whatever country happens to be out there growing the best Cocoa.
Kona, I think you've found the ultimate platform. "Secure the supply of Chocolate".
