I'm sure they'll be catching a lot of flak over that...

Why not just sterilize the pitties or other dogs of the irresponsible breeders, or take their dogs away altogether?

It makes no sense to just sweep through a city and sterilize all one breed, although it looks like the law is read as any aggressive breed, but obviously the Pits will be targeted first/most.

The only good side I guess, is unlike Ontario or wherever, they aren't doing mandatory euthanasia!!! Worst case your pup can't reproduce, but at least you'll still have him/her with you. It could easily be used as a stepping stone/precedent for euthanasia legislation later though:(

Calif. allows cities to force pit bull sterilization

Well, how 'bout if they added the words "irresponsible" before pit and "owners" right after bull?

:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

It's really too bad this bill doesn't cover ALL breeds

As an owner of a 'fixed' APBT I think manditory is wrong.  Any type of breed specific legislation is what is going to exterminate and cause some breeds to become extinct.

I have a serious problem with that.

Having said that though, I am a proponant for spaying & neutering your animals.  I can say that the majority of Pits that I see that are NOT fixed are owned by MEN (ok fellas, what's the deal? if you know that it will extent a dog's life, keep them from bolting & improve their temperment - why on earth don't you Neuter them?) It's been proven that having an animal Neutered helps cut their urge to run and their propencity to agression.

I have owned a MALE fixed @ 9 months Doberman (RIP) and now I own a MALE fixed @ 9 months APBT and I trusted/trust them completely with humans. Granted, APBT, Staffordshire Terriers and Bull Terriers tend to be animal agressive, but so are POLICE DOGS!  They are beautiful dogs around children and people.  They are people dogs - I've read the literature on them.

I say Neuter the dumbasses who own these dogs and beat them, starve them, train them to kill and abuse them.  That'll help fix the problem damn fast!  Threaten to castrate a man and he'll stop what he's doing real damned fast.

BTW - It's NOT the breed it's the owner's responsibility to care for ANY animal and treat them humanely....if you read the media crap out there on most of the dogs that attack, they were a) never socialized b) trained to guard dogs and aggressive c) in tact & not fixed d) trained and bred specifically for agression.

Give me a break on the whole "these dogs don't deserve to live BS"

Ever hear of Buster Brown Shoes?  Guess what kind of dog that was on those old adversitements?

How about Petey from the Lil' Rascals?  Yep, you guessed it an APBT

The symbol of this countries might during WWII - APBT!

The RCA dog - once again, an APBT

So, why now, in this new millenium do we find such disdain for this breed?  Asses who fight them and those that go to the fights and bet on the death of another animal.

I've had my fill of all the BS

More Banned Breeds: Husky (and Husky mixes), German Shepards, Dobermann Pinschers, Rotwiellers, Mastifs, Dalmatians and many other breeds you'd never guess were part of BSL and insurance bans.

Hey! I've got an idea.;quesInstead of mandatory sterilization, why not fit them with removable dentures? They could be put in whenever it's time to eat, then taken out when the meal was finished. We'd all be safe then.  ;devil
