I didn't realize it had been since 2002 when they last bumped the stamp. I'm trying to remember what it was as far back as I can think of... I know it used to be 27, I think I remember it being 23... but I could be getting that wrong. pretty sure it's always been in the 20s that I'm aware of.

LOL! I can clearly remember when it was $.03. No...that's not a typo.
With the rise of competitors, e.g. UPS, Fed Ex, Airborne, and others, I wonder what their future will be? The USPS is a favorite whipping boy for many folks, and has been the victim of much abuse at the hands of the press and comedians. Personally, I've never had an issue with them. They've never lost anything I've sent/received in over 60 years of use. Things usually arrive within reasonable time limits. I'm in awe of how they do this so consistently, day after day.
I'm not advertising for the USPS. I'm just wondering aloud what their future will be.

That's a reasonable point. I've never had a horrible experience with any of the Big 3 (or DHL either, actually). So I just cross my fingers each time, cause I figure I'm due eventually
What I've found, is USPS is best for smaller things, books, CDs, smaller boxes. I usually price check all 3 online, since I've found the #s quite accurate, and if it's a normal piece, UPS/FedEx are Usually more $$ than Priority. When it gets to shipping wheels or larger parcels, I'll go to the Staples UPS counter.
Of course for one thing my home PO is a wee throw-back to days of yore, circa the Pony Express, and 4 wheel boxes would basically devour the entire lobby. Staples is physically larger!

Well, I can tell you that the frieght carriers are less expensive to ship larger packages than the USPS. If they don't get on the stick and become more competitive against the others they can really start to worry.
Not to mention the quality of help they have for carriers here in Manchester. I can't tell you how many of my letters, magazines etc. have been mangled by some cranky carrier from stuffing things in my mailbox. Just cramming the stuff in. I've had to call many times. the biggest problem was one of the guys liked to smoke a pipe and would come into the building's common area entrance where our mailboxes are - smoking that pipe when it is clearly against our policy. I believe he was repromanded. I've not seen him deliver here anymore.

Your mailman entered the building to fill your boxes While smoking?! That's just kinda absurd, one would think common sense would override that decision...
