I'm really not a big conspiracy theorist, but this smells fishy and there's no way I think the VP and his buddies are below being in bed with energy corporations at others' expense:
It's getting tougher to not think the worst when Cheney's name comes up.On the other hand I'd rather have a government that actually talks to people who know what the heck is going on rather than just pulling ideas out of a hat.Perhaps it's just that these meetings were being held in secret that causes one to wonder.

Ok, here's my problem - this task force is formed under the name of the United States - why is it not avail. to the citizen's of the US to read?
The Bush Administration cannot be trusted...these SOB's are destroying this country - and no, I don't have an answer because I'm not a politician, but I know damned well that Bush has had Daddy & Mommy cover for his sorry ass all his life and he's out for himself. nevermind the rest of this country.
UGH - I can't stand either of these weasles!!!!! they're like dirty old men - they give me the shivers and make me sick to think they represent the US as a whole to the rest of the world.

There's a really good Newsweek one-page article from last week, it's not directly related to this but the author makes a good point. I believe it was discussing that if our "leaders" stopped trying to allow torture it might improve their overall image here and abroad (a bit).
Anyway, memorable quote in regards to Sen. McCain's bill and rumors of a Veto of the entire Defense budget if it isn't removed:
"White House spokesmen don't answer questions about the bill plainly, and Cheney simply refuses to explain his views at all. (As writer Andrew Sullivan has noted, someone needs to remind the VP that he is an elected and accountable public servant, not a monarch.)"
I think that kinda sums it up. I understand some things can't be broadcast to the American public at large, particularly military matters come to mind. But when EVERYTHING they do is secret, behind closed doors, confidential... what the hell are we supposed to think about what's going on?!
We are NOT supposed to think! We are just supposed to follow orders. These people know what's best for our country, as well as all the other countries in the world. How can we possible contradict that? Having a different opinion than they do is un-patriotic, unrealistic, and very likely un-American. Any one harboring subsersive ideas is just playing "dirty" politics, probably guilty of helping the enemy, and should be arrested and tortured themselves.
Oops! I forgot. We don't torture anyone in this country, because we are the pinnacle of humane & compassionate. Come to think of it, our country is the very "definition"of morality, goodness, and compassion.
