So, what do think should be done, if anything? Send'em back? Let'em stay? Let'em become citizens? Beef up the border? Open up the border? Pass new laws? Amend existing laws?

Let's hear from you.

Yes I bet you don't depend on them for what's in your kitchen or the buildings you get in.

Let's remind everyone in this country that we all are here because we, parents, and/or ancestors have once been an immigrant to this country.

So is there a new meaning to the word freedom?

I can go on...

Well, My only issue is that when ppl. come to the US illegally, that is a fact - They have come here ILLEGALLY.

Typically, one has crossed a border without the proper documentation and fees paid just like ALL immigrants are required to do.

I have been through the immigration process myself w/ my ex-husband.  I know how difficult it is and I don't wish it on anyone, however if it's good for one, it's good for all.

As for the comment about freedom - This definition of freedom is abused so oftern.  I apologize in advance if this offends anyone, however you need to earn freedom.
Why do I say this?  Well, this country is not a free place to come in and get medical coverage for free, housing for free, all sorts of other aid for free without having to pay back something to the country giving you this.
MIND YOU I am not saying that all immigrants feed off our social services, however if you are an illegal immigrant in the USA and you are rec'ing aid from our government you need to be paying taxes and contributing to the funds you are depleting for those of us who are born and raised in this cournty and have been paying into our social security benifits (which we probably won't have when we retire anyway) and won't have due to ppl. NOT entitled to these benifits who are collecting.

I could go on and I do feel bad for those who are in war torn countries etc., but as far back as My great Grandfather my family has had men who have served in our armed forces and fought for the right to call the USA home and earned these social benifits, but can't get them...why?  Politics...and when I think of all the jobs that are taken and benifits which are paid out to illegal immigrants are being taken away from those who have fought & worked very hard in their lives here, where they were born.

Mind you, I'm not against immigration and the opportunities avail. here in the USA - by all means, come on in and stay, but do it legally!  Stop crossing borders in trucks and ocean vessels packed into crates etc.  Stop breaking the law - If a person who is born in the USA breaks the law they are punished - as should it be for those who are not citizens and are here illegally.

Sorry about the rant, and I did NOT intend to offend anyone, but I'm tired of thinking that my money that I pay to uncle sam is going in the pockets of those that have not worked and paid taxes properly EVER in this United STates.

I also know that the United States was founded by immigrants, however that was well over 2 centuries ago - get over it.  BTW - I do have two native american tribes in my heritage, so please, no one pull that (you're not a true American either etc...)

hola, perhaps what we should do is make all of mexico, central and south america part of the great united states. these could be other states persay and maybe we could go and make it all productive. we could dig for oil, so that we don't have to pay $3+ per gallon, we could dig for gold so that our currency would be more valuable, methane, diamonds, you name it! all this and more could be found in this vast land.now that , is easier said than done. best of all we could all pay our taxes! that way, when is time for all of us to retire there would be plenty of money, even for our so trusted cheating politicians. sincerely ypdmotorsports:wave

I don't really have a problem with illegals. I've worked with lots of them, and I speak semi-fluent Spanish so I actually get to talk to them.

The one that comes to mind, Marco, came here because there was no job for him in Mexico. He had a wife and two kids, and could not afford to support them on Mexican wages. So he came here and worked. He was not a trouble maker, he simply wanted to support his wife and kids- which is more than you can say for some of the people in this country.

I feel the competition is good. People always want something for nothing. Well, 99% of illegals work hard to support their families, and do jobs most people don't want to do. That's why you need to go to school and get a SKILLED job- one where you can't just be replaced be another schmuck off the street, or an immigrant willing to work for less money.

If you think about it, we as Americans are fucking lazy and greedy. We want to make a ton of money for as little work as possible. In other countries, it's not that way. They realize you have to work hard if you want to get paid.

I feel if they're not getting in trouble, let them be. But if they become a problem, ship them home.

I agree about SOME Americans being lazy......but I agree with thtis as well!!!!!

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

As My mother in law says.....Why do we want to reinvent the wheel!!!! Yo wnt to live here with us then learn the language and be an american!!!!! I also have had the opportunity to work with illlegals and yes they are very hard working and the little money they make here and send home almost doubles or triples, but I should not have to learn spanish or russian or whatever language in my own country that speaks ENGLISH to communicatewith them. I have no problem with them, don't get me wrong and it is good to be bi-lingual, but not beause it is forced upon me because of all the immigrants coming here refusing to learn the English language.....Just my ;2cents  after reading the last post.......and please no one take offense!!!!

You're ok Teks - we have loads of debates and discussions in here that not everyone agrees on and that's the beauty of TF - freedom to speak your mind so long as you're not being jerky...anyway.

I think the quote you added here from Mr. Roosevelt was appropriate.

I'm not certain if anyone has heared, but there are ppl. who are protesting the latest latin version of the Star Spangled Banner.  I think that if it is the American National Anthem, then it should be sung in it's country's language, which is English, however I think that there is NOTHING wrong with ppl. showing their passion for this country with a multi-lingual version.  It's a tough situation, but I can't stand how so many of these types of situations are being pushed into the political eye and then legislation is being requested.  It's just costing the US government more money on silly situations that shouldn't have been made a big deal of in the first place.

Oh well, there will always be more than one viewpoint on all of these types of situations...it's human nature.

Actually, this is not true. Our country, unlike most of the countries in the world, has no national language. There have been some attempts to introduce a bill & pass a law that would make English our official national language, but as far as I know, none of them have succeeded.

Very interesting Mr V....Thank. As I see it, we have spoke English is this country for how long??? so whether there is a bill with the national language passed or not, English IMHO is the natioanal language just because of how long we have spoken it here so if you live here, you should know it.

This am I saw a banner on my way to NYC that said "Land of the Free" and had the Puerto Rican flag on it. I was very puzzled.......anyone????
