From the way this movie is advertised, you'd expect it to be a semi-comedic / feel-good- movie. It isn't either. Supposedly based on a true story, (what isn't these days?), it's a story about a guy whos having a tough time making a living. His wife leaves him, his job situation doesn't immediately improve, and he and his son become homeless. The story shows how hard it is just to stay alive, all the while trying to secure meaningful employment and improve your life.
Will Smith & his son both give excellent performances. I found the movie to be a bit of a downer though. From what I've heard through the news media, most people in the U.S. live their lives within 2- 3 paychecks from being in this situation. Actually, I found the movie to be kind of scary, because it depicted the kind of situation that could happen to most of us within a month's time.
*** out of *****
