I have decided that since the show season is over, I am going to try me hand at building a box out of fiberglass for 4 12" Infinity Kappa Perfects, I have done alot of math and the box it real close to 4 cubic feet and the subs call for 1 cubic foot per sub in a sealed box.  So I guess I will just see how it goes.

Here is the start of the box...

Now I just have to cover it and start laying the glass and resin, but I do have a queation if anyone knows the answer, just how many layers of glass should I cover it with?  I am still not really sure how many......

well I'm guessing here, but it makes good sense to me...you are going to want a fair amount of glass.  Mainly because of the higher pressure.  Are you facing two in and two out?  All out?  Alot of this plays a part in how thick the glass is.  Are you dividing each sub chamber or just leaving it open?  Slight power variations between subs in an open chamber will cause you to lose volume because one sub may draw more air than another, and if the subs get slightly out of phase you'll lose your spl's.  Just some things maybe to think about.  You probably already have, but just in case.  I know I've seen people with 2 subs in a car that wasn't as loud as 1 of the same sub in a car.  Law of physics sound waves can cancel each other out if they are arranged wrong etc.

Well now the box is starting to take shape, I got the fabric and the first coat of resin on it, now the fun of applying tons of fiberglass mat and resin starts this weekend.  I will have to make it as strong as I can.  Here is the latest shot of the box.

I am thinking of writing up a how to when this is all done for others that want to takle one of these themselves.

Once I get the whole thing done I am going to paint it Malibu Blue to match the car.  Hopefully that wil really set off the trunk, I also have 2 chrome Audiobahn amps and 4 chrome power caps to add to the whole thing when its all done, but those are going to be added to a black crush velour amp rack so it doesn't take away from the box.  I want to subs to be the center of attention in the trunk at shows.

It is some kind of stretchy nylon T-shirt type of material, and it has seemed to work real well, I like how it made the curves.  I found it at Wal-Mart for $1 a yard.

And here is the box with the first caot of fiberglass reinforced body fill to really smooth it out... (now it is taking shape nicely)

Looks sweet man! Wish I had 1/2 of the fiberglasing skills that you do. Maybe when I get my truck (eventually), I'll have to come look at this fr some ideas on how to make a box fit in it. Maybe this should go into the how to section when it is all done! I think it would help a lot of people out if they ever were to attempt this project on their own.:dude:
