I have replaced all the stock speakers in my car and installed Pioneers all around. Well, I just recently replaced my head unit and now all of a sudden my front passenger speaker isnt working right. When i turn the volume from 0 to 1, i get this popping sound. And there is little to no sound coming out of it at all. Blown? It doesn;t crack or anythign with the music up.

I am going to pull the head unit this weekend and check the connection behind the radio, crossing my fingers that might solve the problem and I wont have to pull the door panel off.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
-Tiffany

I'd  say check the cables of your speakers, if it just the front speakers make sure is the headunit doesn't have the fade to one side. But popping sound mostly will be a cable installed wrong.

You might want to check both the speaker wire from the harness and make sure that there is a secure connection as well as, if the first option does not work, check the polarity in the doors. Make sure positive is to positive and negative to negative.

Depending on the deck you have too, there may be a voltage spike problem with is sometimes a common occurance in Pioneer decks.

I really dont want to wait till april to get this fixed. What kind  of voltage spike could be occuring ? The deck is pioneer adn the speakers are also ( not that it would make a difference)

you fix this yet?   Im betting you have a pinched wire or a loose connection or the headunit isnt grounded very well.

So, here's the outcome.

Upon some more suggestions from Sublime , I was able to determine that the head unit was defective. I went to best buy where I purchased the head unit and after a few deep breaths and some ranting, I got a new unit. Now, because when I bought the first one it was a discontinues model, of course they didnt have any left. So I went from this: Pioneer DEH-8600

To This: Pioneer DEH-P80MP

So far I'm really happy with it, it still needs some tuning, but its not as hi-tech as it looks. Thanks for everyones help!

You are welcome on the help issue. Also, that new deck is supposed to be rather slick. I haven't installed one yet but a friend of mine is thinking of buying that to run a full system with 3 amps, EQ, and a number of components and subs.

Nice choice.

Send me a PM and I can give you some suggestions for running with another amp. It is actually pretty simple.

Nothing in my car, or my wife's or any car I have owned for the past 8 years has run off of the HU. I always use external amps. You will also notice, especially with Alpine units, how cool the HU will run when it isn't actually pushing any power.

What kind of power are you looking for? Also what kind of features do you want. I am rather good at finding deals on the net.

Well i currently have Pioneer all through out the car with the exception of subs and amp for the subs. I was looking into a Pioneer amp to run the speakers though.  I found a 600 W one for a decent price.

I have TS-A6870R speakers and I was looking at the GM6100F amp.. would that work?

I'm just looking for crisper sound I guess... nothing too crazy...

You mean this one:

http://www.digitalfotoclub.com/products3/964597158.asp

Good price too. If you want to stay with Pioneer then that would be a nice amp. I do have one suggestion.  I would upgrade your front speakers to a set of components. Try these: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4067_35027,00.html which can be found for a lot cheaper on e-bay brand new.

You can mount them on a 1/2" MDF baffle in the door for a completely stealth look on the inside. Audio Junkie can help you with it. you could do this a little easier with the 5.25" set.

The easiest way to get the signal to the doors, since you won't be running too much power, is to get this awesome cable from Monster Cable, http://www.monstercable.com/caraudio2/productPageCar.asp?pin=1887&LastPage=Speaker%20Cable This is what I used on my wife's car and a few others. It has all four speaker cables in one and the Stock Focus wiring going to the doors is decent wire for 75 watts and below. This makes it incredibly easy to do the four channel amp install.

It is 19.95 for 20 feet. I have used it a buch of times and don't usually like Monster Cable but this stuff is pretty nice and simple to work with. As for the front component thing, that is not a necessary thing at all just a suggestion and could be done later on down the road once you get used to the sound with a four channel amp.

For the cabling, I split it 2" up an dthen put a piece of heat shring tubing on it to clean it up. Then I spliced and mounted connectors on each end. It is also soldered into and heat shrunk into the wiring harness I used. This way, if I ever want to get rid of the amp, I can simply pull it and replace with the OEM deck or rewire the speaker wires in the harness.

BTW, if you can't tell, it is slow today at work. Hence the speedy posts.
