Let me first start by saying: If you need any pictures, let me know and I can take and post any pictures of my car you may want.
Anyway, I bought an '05 ZX4 ES back in January, and am slowly piecing a stero together for it. (I had all Kenwood in my previous car-*'00 Accord EX* but the door speakers were blown, so I left them in it when I traded it in)
I had audio express install the amps/subs in my car, but they "said" that they couldnt install the stereo because the dash kit wasnt out yet. So they wired it all in really screwy like. (I ordered the dash kit online about an hour after Audio Express told me they couldnt do it)
I currently have multiple issues/questions (all revolving around my own stupidity).
I finally got the dash kit for it and would like to install it, that sounds simple enough, right? Well, I was hoping that I could install it and still be able to use the steering wheel remote that came with the Focus. (I've really grown fond of that remote)
(Audio Express will charge an arm and a leg to do it, (they said many hours of labor, and it may not even work)
Can anyone help with "do it yourself" instructions?
I have 4 of them, they will not fit in the door panels (really wish they would, but they just wont ) Anyway, I'm wondering about other places to put them in my car...any suggestions? ***Keep in mind I am a newbie who usually pays to get things like this done, except for once, I want to make sure it gets done right...I really hate Audio Express***
First off, one Kenwood 800W amp powers 2 10" Kenwood subs. (That amp over-heats all the time and shuts down)
The other amp is Kenwood also, 320W...it currently powers the factory speakers (this one does not over-heat).
Both amps are screwed down to the back of my Sub box (2 subs in 1 box) which is placed in my trunk. The box itself is screwed down in my trunk to keep from moving. My best guess is that it is too close to the back seat of my car, and not enough air flow is getting through...Well, I have very little trunk room as it is, so I am wondering what the cheapest and most room efficient way of preventing the subs amp from over-heating is.
Also, the 320W amp is not good (or so I'm told by Audio Express) for powering the 6X9's I'm wanting to install. I was wondering if someone could tell me what a good amp for them would be, that way I can shop around and start saving my monitary units for it. I put a link to those speakers further up, that way you can know what their specs are.
Phew, bet you thought I'd be done with problems by now, wouldnt ya.
I was wondering about getting a remote start on my car.
I have a stick shift with a KARR car alarm on it now (from the dealer) It has remote lock/unlock, and Power Windows (if any of that matters) The biggest concern is that it has a manual transmission. (Audio Express said they cant put a remote start on it because of that.).....***Did I mention how much I dislike AE?***
hmmm...added to that, my current keychain alarm/unlock/lock/trunk device has a very low range, I have to be about 5-10 feet from my car for it to work (even the backup one too) which is odd, because on my accord, the device would work from dang near the other side of a football stadium....is that normal?
Remote start in a stick....doable....pro"pro" shops wont do it......you ive in Az....not really practically except to cool the car down correct?
anyway moving on....
Audio Express I worked for one in Richmond, Va
they do suck now that Ive learned things
digresssion
Subs and amp...what is the impedence of your subs or better yet the model? I bet your runnign your subs on the amp at too low of an impedence....How many channels is he 800 Watt amp?

Don't know much acout the audio but I do know some on the last question.
As for a remote start. You can get one but you will have to remember to put it in N before leaving the car. There may be an override(to not start) if it is left in gear but I'm not sure. Aftermarket car starters have been known to mess with if not take out the computers in cars. Not sure if one brand is less apt to take out computers than another or if it is falty instillation that causes it. but I do know it happens and the dealer can void the warranty if the car starter caused the computer to go bad. Not trying to scare you just inform you. You could install a car starter and never have a problem.
As for the stock ford unlock button/alarm the range is minimal and always has been. Some cars will have a greater range than others but in general thay are all about the same sence 2000. We used to joke and have games about it by putting it on your chin and lifting you arm as an antenna to get better distance, Pitchbalck you know what I mean.
got a link for that? NEVER heard of that in 9 years. Remnote starts do not hurt the ECU unless installed by an idiot or a newbie...it takes years to get proficent at alarms, remote starts.....just cause billy bob can do in the back yeard on his 88 Nissan Sentra doesnt mean he can do it on a 2005 Focus.
They make special remote starts for manuals.....
wont start unless ebrake is up and car is in neutral
ill find my link
