Ok birthdays coming up and my girl wants to get me XM Satellite Radio. I've got a cd player (sony) that's xm ready, just wanted to know who has it and if it's worth it. I usually go to crutchfield.com for stuff like this because they give you everything you need to install the items you buy from them for free but the XM radio package offered for the sony cd players only got one review and it was bad. This person says " This unit has real problems ! Unless this problem has been fixed, all setting default after swithing modes, like from xm to cd. It resets everytime! Bass settings everything !" Is this true? That's really crappy if it is. Here's a link to the package
i tried using this on my first deck...waste of my time, luckily best
buy took it back and i went out and bought a deck with XM built in, now
that i had an account set up by that time. but then again, ive
heard people that have had it work..all personal prefernce i
guess. IMHO its worth spending the extra money to have the
built-in XM if youre opposed to the dash mount/portable kits
Ive had XM now for about three months maybe. I have to say, Im not all that impressed. I dont know any other way to put it. In fact I have already considered yanking it out of my car and putting it up for sale on eBay.

my cd player already has xm built in it just needs that package to make it work. I've had it planned out for some time now. I live in a valley so we get no outside radio stations. So unless your into country and the weather its cds or nothing. I was more worried about it not working right and resetting all my settings when I switch between XM to cd player.

Yeah, I punched a baby once, in anger. But in my defense the baby was being kind of a dick.
Built in XM and XM ready decks are 2 completely different things, in case you were unaware. XM ready means you can plug and play the kit you have pictured above, XM Built in means that an XM modulator is built into your deck, and all you need to do is plug in the antenna and you can change btw XM stations, CDs and Radio and whatnot as you wish.
in either case, your settings will not be messed with by switching from XM to CDs or Radio
"It" being the receiver right, like the Roady or something like that?
I've seen them in a couple places. Mine is mounted on the silver HVAC surround piece, the upper right corner... so it's kinda in front of the 3rd vent (counting them left to right).
I've also heard of people mounting it on the dash right below that "coin pocket" to the right side of the gauges. That one's probably easier for the driver to reach, but if you actually use that pocket it's inconvenient.
Mine the wires just snake from behind the radio and come up from behind the silver plastic piece. I actually need to pull off the piece and Dremel it a little, because the wires keep it from snapping into place fully. Not a big deal, I just haven't felt like pulling my radio to get the piece away from the wires so I can safely Dremel.
See the other location is just to the left of the vent rings there... either place seems good.
Here's the back showing the gap... the wires aren't shown, they're near the upper left corner of the black mounting square:

I got it installed a few days ago. It does reset a couple of my settings when I switch back and forth. Just a minor inconvenience. I still think it's cool

must be a sony thing. I've checked around and found a few other people with the same issue. I'm lucky at least it doesn't reset everything. Just my eq and dso settings. It's annoying but not a real problem. I can live with it.

Did you hardwire the radio and how. i was looking at the side of the holder and it says 6v and I would like to hard wire it but didn't know if I could
all I can say is which ever one you choose make sure you either use your receiver of get the digital box they sell so you do not have to run it through the radio stations. It makes a HUGE difference
