I have been having problems with my stereo for a long time now. I just bought a new head unit to install but the guys who were installing it said that my amp for my in car speakers (the factory amp for my stereo not my sub amp) went out, and that I'd have to replace it. I was wondering if anyone can tell me where the amp is located, and perhaps how to remove it and where the best place is to get a new or used one.

Thanks I'm really anxious to get a stereo back in my car.

ummm... factory??

speakers are powered by the head unit itself.  it has it's own amp.  as should your new one.  so if the amp in your original head unit blew it's of no concequence cause it's beeing replaced with a new head unit, right?

are you saying your installer wouldn't put in your new head unit cause the old amp is broken?  i think you need to get a new installer.  for that matter, do it yourself.  stereo head units are very easy.  just a matter of picking up the harness adaptor to fit your car and a ford "stereo removal tool" from anywere... walmart even.  then crimping the wires together as they're labeled.

anybody else? am i wrong about this?

not the new head unit it is fine and works but audio dynamics and another audio place says there is an amp near my stereo stuff that when out when my output on my old head unit broke. the prblem is that no sound is coming through my speakers. and i got a new head unit so it is not that. that is the reason i got one cause we thought that that was what it was.

ok hmm... do you have the "audiophile" system?  some focuses (mainly SVT, but i've seen one non-SVT that had it) came with an audio system with a 6 cd changer and a sub in the back.

if you have that system then you do have an amp in the back, but i thought it was only for the sub. the other speakers should run off the headunit
