Engine

The heartbeat of the Seven CSR will be the new Cosworth developed 2.3-litre Ford Duratec engine.

The all-alloy, four-cylinder twin cam unit will produce either 200bhp or 260bhp and unrivalled levels of reliability and performance. Significantly, the EU4 approved 200bhp engine, will provide a major boost to Caterham’s already strong export market, as well as forming the cornerstone of its domestic high performance sales.

Is that motor available in the USA as a "drop in"?

Probably not through regular channels. I'm sure that you could have one shipped over if you are willing to cough up the cash. :-)

I'm in the process of retiring and wanted to build a fun track car.  About how much cash would one expect to cough up (or throw up for that matter) and what channel would one use to cough up at?

Also, if I'm not too much of a bother, what's the best alternative for a Duratec track motor in the USA at this time.

I've got a Honda S2000 motor and trans but it's too bulky to fit into a kit Se7ven without modifications to the kit.

Thanks for being so kind to answer my "newbie" questions.

The Caterham dealers can also get you in to all sorts of Zetecs that would certainly get your attention in a lightweight vehicle. There are also people like Tom Lesperance that could build up just about anything that you could dream of.$ is impossible to give an answer to other than a range of 6 -75k depending on what you want and how far you are willing to go to win.

Thanks again.

How do I reach Tom Lesperance?

BTW, I'd like to keep the entire drivetrain budget (inlcuding motor) in the $10-12K range.  I'll do the drop-in labor and fitment for the drive shaft and companion flanges

Tom is athttp://www.focus-power.com/view.php?showme=HomeGood guy and does beautifully detailed work. He's made his name in the boosted side but isn't shy on the N/A side of engine development :-)

Any time. Let me know which way you decide to go. I can dig up more notes on builds. Much depends upon class rules if you are going to race it. What part of the country are you in?Just had another thought about Zetec info. GaryK is a member here and has done some work with this powertrain. Send him a PM.

'Turbo Tom'  He's an excellent fellow!  Very good at what he does and a nice guy to boot.

I've met him in person a few times and I've watched his cars move - quite well I must say.

Good luck and I only wish this Cozzy would come out in the US.  I have the 2.3 Duratec, I wonder what it would take to move it up to this level? lol:driv

Oh ya, there would be, but not with what I make now.  I'm not greedy, just want a home and my bills paid.

Chin up. It looks like the housing prices are starting to adjust now. The place that one of my guys was looking at in Boston just got foreclosed on....
