I'm a Honda guy (S2000) that's doing some research on building a roadster for tracking (lapping days & instruction use).

I've just started this research project today.  The "roller" that I'm looking at first is the Birkin S3.  I know nothing about Ford/Cosworth products: totally wet behind the ears.

Before I consider the rear assembly, I'd like to find out what 4 cyl. Duratec options are available as a "drop in" motor.  If it can include an engine management system that will also manage future supercharging, that would be ideal.

Are motors in such a configuration available?

Not too familiar with dropin setups, but it seems limited.  You can buy a 2.3l crate engine from Ford, but it won't have an ECU.  Same goes with Cosworth.  You can purchase a tuned Cosworth Duratec engine, but its going to be pricey, and I don't think it has an ECU either.

I'm assuming this is going to be a RWD setup, right?

Thanks for the information.

The Cosworth prices make it a too steep ($19,000) for my pocketbook.  They also make a quote that I got for the 250 bhp version, with clutch assembly and 6-speed look pretty good.

The FordRacing motor at 170 bhp with a supercharger looks pretty attractive.

Thanks again  :D
