Ok, I've got a 2005 ZX4 ST 5 Spd with the 2.3L Duratech. I recently took out all the stock air intake stuff and attatched a small cone filter directly to the throttle body thru the stock rubber elbow and hose clamp. This took the MAF sensor out, the engine runs fine (sounds cool too ) but i get the check engine light. Is this bad for the engine? (shoudl i replace the MAF sensor) Or can i leave it like this, and possibly turn the check engine light off?

Thanks
    -Brian

I'm gonna go with "that's a bad idea."

Your car needs the MAF sensor. Granted, it can run without it, but it's really much better to run with it.

I guess it's time for me to start making intakes again.

The MAF sensor is what you're computer uses to adjust the A/F ratio.

You should put it back on.

OK thanks, i was gonna make a cold air intake out of some ABS plastic tubing, but it  didnt fit right so i abandoned that idea and tried this one. i figured it might not be the best thing to do but i thought i'd try it anyways lol.

I'm surprised it even ran without the MAF sensor.  People have stuck a cone filter on the end of the that MAF adapter tube, but you get the best results with a true CAI.
