Is this a simple job or do I need to put a rag in the tank and light it?

Never done one but should be as simple as dropping the tank (can be a pain) and than removing the old one and reinstalling the new one. A couple fuel lines and a couple electrical connections.

I recomend emptying the tank before dropping it. Makes life so much easier.

Cool....will give it a shot....

What's the best way to empty the tank?  Pull the filler neck out?  Haven't gotten under there but if it's like trying to change out the rear filter...does it use any clamps or is it the little plastic horseshoes that like to break?

Than you need to JB Weld the hole and thats more of a main because you need to find somthing to hold the JB up untill it stopps dripping and starts to set up. Don't ask how I know this :D

You can either try to syphon it out or pull a fuel line off put it in the bucket and run the pump. If the pump is still running enough to get the gas out. The pump runs for a second when the key is put into the sccesory position so you'll be turning the key a few times depending on how much gas is in the tank.

I say if possible drive the car around untill the gas light comes on than drop the tank. It should be pretty light at that point.

Ok, after trying to fit my 6'5" frame under this car.....disconnected fuel filter and connected holley electric pump, drained tank, disconnected pump electrical and lines.

Replaced fuel pump....took 3hrs to do

Car still will NOT run but will try to start if accelerator is held to the floor.  Plugs are soaked with fuel, I am getting spark, replaced cps and cam sensor.  system is throwing NO CODES when trying to start or otherwise.  Will look for fuel pressure sensor w/electrical and vacuum connection.

btw...all fuses are good and relays are new.

Sounds like the MAF to me. Find a friend with a Focus, borrow their MAF, and see if that works.

Actually, just unplug the MAF and see what happens. Sounds like the car thinks it's getting more air than it is.

Or, it could be your Fuel pressure regulator. See if you're getting fuel pressure at the fuel rail, and how much.

Where is the schrader valve for pressure test located on the 2.3L fuel rail?  All I have in the middle is a large 2in cap....is it there?  How do I open it?

Not trying to be a dink but how do you know your getting spark? The 2.3L dosen't have plug wires.... Did you test every coil pack? Are any of the leads on the plugs broken off or slightly broken off. A buddy with a SVTF had one lead 1/2 gone(brand new plug) and it was causing a misfire but did throw a code.

remove COP and place plug in boot.

Take 10guage wire from Strut nut and wrap around body of plug

crank car and see fat blue spark from each one.

Not a COP issue....will try the MAF when I get home.  Nobody to swap one with where I live.
