Ok there has what has happened. I have a ghetto rigged cone intake, and mbrp exhaust [cat-back]. Just this past week my car has thrown a CEL at me. Nothing appears to be wrong, I checked under the hood fluids are fine, all of them. Nothing appears to be loose. Car was running in fact pretty damn good. I ran a DTC test and it showed P117 which is an ECT error. Which in basic terms deals with temperature. Disconnected the battery for 2 minutes put it back on and the CEL was gone. A day goes by and nothing is wrong and on the day after the CEL goes off again, same code and everything. So this time I take out my air filter and clin my MAF thinking that might be the problem, I disconnected the bat again. After that the CEL went off again. Another day goes by without a problem, then on the day after it goes off YET AGAIN. This time I get bugged so I try taking it into Ford they say I have to wait at least a day and leave my car in. Ha! I dont wanna leave my car in their considering its my ONLY means of transportation. So I do a HARD ECU RESET [negitive terminal off for 30minutes]. Cel went off, but I want to know if anybody knows by any chance what could be wrong? There has been recently a great decrease in temp in my area, 90 degree's to a cool 70 ish area. Anyone know or can help that would be a great way to start my introduction into this Forum.

you clearly have a real problem. go to vatozone (autozone) and get the code scanned for free. the cluster DTC is BS and wont clue you in at all. post your code and I will help you fix it.:)

I've got a DPFE CEL at 4 to 1 odds, with no chance of anything else making the spread.

Its a sensor in the EGR system. It measures the the difference in pressure during EGR activation.

ok the car threw a CEL today. but it took longer than I thought. I truely thought the problem was gone, but it took almost another week for it to go off again. going to autozone and getting it scanned. my thoughts are its either my homeade intake or dirty MAF, and/or fuel pump and or filter.

resetting the computer causes the sensors to go through several phases.  So it taking longer is just a matter of luck really.  If it was your MAFS, I think you'd notice the car running rich.  A fuel pump would be pretty apparent I think.  One of the things about the DPFE is that it will throw a CEL without apparent symptoms.

How would I know if im running too rich? So you think its my DPFE? Went to autozone today and boy was I lucky that I live in California. Becuase they just recently bared them from performing free scans on OBD II. So its either try to figure it out myself or take it in [dealer] and leave it there AGAIN!

Who's stopping them? Is this govt. action or company policy?

try a different vatozone.  Poor fuel mileage is a good indicator of running rich, as well as some smells also, but that depends upon how rich it is.  Anyways...I'm still guessing that it's your DPFE, and depending on how old your car is and mileage and what not, there is an extended warranty on that part because it goes bad on just about everybody.  http://teamfocus.mywowbb.com/forum7/33.html

Another "symptom" of a bad DPFE is kind of a hesitation and almost shudder or sputtering while driving - Mine was noticable @ around 2500-3000 rpms.

Cleaning your MAFS is very simple, but you have to be VERY careful.  I've done it and I noticed nearly an immediate improvement in the pick up of the engine and milage.

I would definitely call a dealership and have your vin ran to check to see if your vehicle is in the extended warranty for the DPFE.  They're crap!

As for the "laws" in California...phuck 'em!  That sounds crazy to me.  I'd contact your Motor Vehicle dept. or DOT office and ask them outright.  Sound like a bunch a' crap to me.
