My "check gas cap" light has been on for a couple of days now. I removed the cap, examined it, pronounced it healthy, and replaced it. I tightened it till it clicked. The light's still on. This light came on once last year. I followed the same procedures & after a couple of start cycles, it went away. This time, it's had about a dozen start cycles, and is still glaring at me.

Any ideas?

the easy solution is to get a new gas cap and hope thats it. the more in depth solution is to smoke ths system and look for the escape point.

Car runs great. No probs except the light. If it doesn't go out within a couple of days, I'll try getting a new cap. Hey! Wait a minute. I'm still under warantee. Well, with MLK day, I'll have to wait until Tuesday anyway.

I must be stupid... but what is the gas cap light?

I don't think I have ever seen that on my gauge cluster... wierd.. hmm

I would say do everything you say but disconnect the battery for 15 mins.. then drive it for 30 after its hooked back up again.

The gas cap light is on the left hand side I believe. You can see it when you first start yuor car i think.

You can probably just call your dealer and speak to someone in the service dept. They can tell you some common problems im sure. I have done this on more than one occasion.

Yeah, I didn't even know there was such a light. Frankly, I think most of those warning lights are bullshit, and if the car is still running fine that proves they're bullshit. Get an OBD-II reader and clear the system. One of the best things I ever bought for the focus.
