So I took my car in today to have some things fixed and diagnosed amongst a plethora of other bull honkery. I told them the valve cover gasket was leaking, they said how do you know... I said... well, that oil there just keeps seeping out the side of it, and it looks like hell, they said, you sure it isn't spillage, I said, sure, I spill oil all around the engine just where the gasket is for looks. Sheeesh. Anyways, I digress... apparently Ford doesn't just replace the damn gasket, they replace the gasket and the valve cover as though it's all one piece, who in the world came up with that brilliant idea? I know you can get the gasket by itself, but since I'm under warranty and that part is covered I'll let them do whatever the hell they want to, but still seems mighty wasteful to me. Hope they don't lose my oil filler cap (my FC one).
That's crazy, you can get the valve cover gasket from the ford dealer. Let them change it for free, as long as you don't have one of the nice metal covers.

Wow that sucks! I mean, for you with warranty work, whatever it's just their money, but imagine if you were out of warranty and needed just a gasket replaced... making you buy a whole new cover is nuts!
Ya you just need to replace th egasket. Actually all they probably really need to do is torque the valve cover bolts. They are steal bolts into an aluminium head and tend to come loose on there own.
Yeah I had already checked the bolts, they were torqued right... and since it was under warranty I wasn't going to argue with them so... let them replace the whole damn thing, I just thought it was stupid.
But even more stupid is the number of things wrong with my car.
Valve Cover leaking (Warranty)
Front sway bar end links (Warranty)
front struts (Warranty)
alternator (Warranty)
engine cooling fan motor (Warranty)
clutch slave cylinder which means whole clutch (Warranty)
rear shocks (I'm doing on my own thank you very much)
something with the rear drum brakes (again on my own)

Thanks for reminding me dan. I may need to get mine done.
The dealers are always dumb when it comes to working on the cars. That's why I try and stay away from them, even for warrenty work. There has been a few times I brought cars in and when I got them back there was more problems then when I brought them in. I had a Tempo that had real messed up valves so I had the head rebuilt. After I put the damn rebuilt head back on the car I brought it right to the dealer to trade the car in. They looked under the hood and saw that the head was shinney and new. They asked if I had cleaned out the engine bay I just played dumb but they never thought that I was dumping the stupid car off on them. LOL
I just thought it was silly of Ford to require them to replace it all, they were pretty well aware that it was numb. However, I won't argue with new parts, I also just got a whole new drum assembly, spindle, inner and outer bearings, brake shoes, ebrake cables and a slew of other things because the brake cylinder on the passenger side rear had blown leaking lovely brake fluid all over the place back there.
Was that stuff all covered under warranty too? You have braided steel lines don't you, did they not care about those because the fluid came from the cylinder?
all covered under warranty. The braided lines shouldn't affect your cylinders, all they do is make the response better. The pressure would still be more or less the same. Imagine smashing down on the brakes and having the cylinder go, stainless lines or not, it's the cylinders fault.
