What year is your Focus?  There may be some TSB's or recalls out there on it.

I would check your fuel filter and replace.  Also, did you recently refill your gas at a different gas station?  With the weather changed you may have pumped some water laiden fuel into the tank...

I would check your plugs for fouling - just pull them and have a peek into the wires to see if they are dirty or have oil in them.

Do you have any warranty left?  I highly suggest that you check out our TSB/Recall section for symptoms: http://teamfocus.mywowbb.com/forum7/

Also, the one major issue w/ the Focus and many other cars is the DPFE dying.  This will cause problems and they die very easily.
Oh, forgot, MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) could be shot or dirty.  EAsily cleaned however.  If you need ideas on that, I can help you out, just let me know.

Do you have a CAI on your focus?  If you do, I would check to see that you haven't sucked up any water!

Hope some of these ideas can help!!! Keep us posted!

Yep.

Fuel pump (on recall for 2000 and 2001 and some 2002 with be bad but not covered under the recall).

Fuel filter

Plugs (its possible you gad a bad one)

Coil Pack (the thing on the right that all the plug wires go into)

Plug wires

Thats where I would start. I'm thinking its a spark issu where it does it all the time. Smothing out at 60 only is weard tho.

Check the battery to body ground connection. It sounds as if it might be a less that good connection and as the draw varies the resistance is changing and the ECU is getting mixed signals. Might sound strange but always look at the simple stuff first. Also just unplugging the connector for the MAF, cleaning it out and plugging it back in is worth a shot.

Has your check engine light come on yet?  If so, get the codes read (you can do it yourself instead of paying someone).  Your car sounds like mine did, just a little more extreme.  I dont' knwo who agrees, but it could be the emission system.  Does it only do it once your car warms up?

The best place to have a code read, as long as the CEL light is on is Auto Zone, they do it for free.
