So I think my DPFE sensor is going bad.  The car runs great until it hits umm.. running? temp.  Once the little "your car is warmed up" gauge is dead center, the car idles like crap.  To describe it, I'd say it's basically sputtering, eventually, it'll stall.  I've read a lot of stuff on a lot of websites (to include http://www.focushacks.com) and that's why I think it's the DPFE sensor.  So here's my problem... I can't find my sensor anywhere.  Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing or something.    The OEM number is as follows:  98BB-9J460-AB.  If you can find somewhere to order this thing, I'd be eternally greatful.  Even a suitable sub would be fine.  I ordered one from http://www.autozone.com (Part Number SU2108)but it was the wrong one.  The part they sent me looked like the one on FocusHacks (the ref to the left of the hi).  Mine has the ref port in front of the high.  Even the wire connector is shaped different.  WIth that in mind though, I can't find any site with my part or with a pic of one like mine.

Here's my car details:

2002 Ford Focus

2.0 liter SPI engine

Vin# 1FAFP34P52W287369 (In case I forgot something important)

I have no idea if it's federal or california emissions, nor do I know how I'd find that out.  Autozone said the part they sent is the right one but I'm kind of doubting that.  If that part I ordered would work and I just need to get the wiring harness adapted, that's fine but I didn't want to hook up some wrong part that would make things even worse.

Thanks in advance for any/all help offered.

There are so many things that could be causeing this but the quickest thing is to check your DPFE.

Even if there isn't a code being pulled from your ECU it can be bad.  There are TSB's out for this and even an extended Warranty due to the high occurance of these going bad.  My 2k2's went twice and my 2k3 PZEV's is going.

The best way I can describe my symptoms to you is that when I get up to around 2200-2500 rpms you can feel my car stammer...like its' fighting to get fuel and bogging down.  This happened w/ my 2k2 ZX3 and like I said, is happening w/ my 2k3 now around 22-2400k

I do get the check engine light.  I also get 4 errors.  They include one about the emissions sytem (DPFE), the rest are about random misfires which are obviously caused by this thing going bad.

The only difference between your symptoms and mine are that now I only have these issues when the car is idle.  I wish I'd know about this before though because it used to stammer like that while driving around.  It'd be one big sputter/power drop, then fine.

So I guess I need to contact Ford and see if they can send me the part because there's no American car dealerships here in England.  lol

A left hand drive car in a right hand drive world.  How unique.

I drove over there for a bit when I was there for the Millenium - I miss so much about the UK!!!!

Maybe we could get into the import export business? LOL! (half kidding)

I do miss the bread, cheese & CURRY over there.  I'm also hoplessly addicted to Sainsbury's Earl Gray tea.  I'm pathetic.

If you can't get a reasonable price over there on a part for your car, let me know.  I'll see what I can do.
