I have a 2000 ZX3 with a manual trans. I down shifted too hard and snapped my driver's side mount. I replaced all of my mounts, but I am still having an issue with what seems to be the engine and trans moving when I shift gears. I can feel it rotate out of my shifting realm making it very difficult to shift into reverse and even between all of the other gears during normal driving. I had this problem before, but it was fixed when I replaced the clutch and mounts. What could be a possible cause to my problem?
Did you brake the shifter mount inside the car? This does brake with hard shifting. They have been know to brake more often with short throw shifters installed, its only plastic.
Ther are 3 mounts total holting in the tranny and the motor. Looking at the motor from the front there is a motor mount on the left (pass side) a tranny mount on the right (driver side) and under the car there is one kinda centered but to the drivers side that holds the tranny also. The lower one will keep the motor from rocking when stepping on the gas or allor the motor to rock if its broken or the rubber is worn. The side mounts help the motor from rocking also but just aid the lower one.
I agree that your shifter mount might be broken. Regardless, you might want to replace the rear motor mount. It's only a 15-20 min. job. If you replace it with the stock Ford mount, it's going to do the same thing. Look for an after market rear mount such as a VF Engineering. IMO, this is one of the 1st mods anybody with an MTX should consider.
