That one I havent heard of before.  Normally a flickering CEL would indicate a misfire, but one that stays dimly light even with the key out would tell me that somehow that bulb is still getting power, like a high resistance short.

First things first, be sure there are no codes set just to make sure there isnt a reason for the light to be on in the first place.  You can take it to Autozone and they can read it for you.  Ford is going to the newer CAN protocol so if your car is using that protocol Im not sure Autozone will be able to read it.  However, if it still uses the ODB II protocol then they will be able to.

If they find no codes or pending codes (be sure to check for both) then I would start looking at the electrical wiring.  I wish I could be more specific but that is all I can think of at the moment.

i just had this fixed.  (in my 2004 2.3L)

good news: there isn't anything wrong with your engine.  your car won't blow up.

kinda bad news: the problem was a faulty instrument cluster and they had to order one.  so they had the car over night.

it was all warranty work for me.  i got mine new in 04 and i have the premium warranty.

i say take it to the dealer you got it from.

:D

LOL this is the perfect spot to put this in.  Your car is a perfectly fine Ford.

most likely the connector on the back of the cluster is loose. seems a few people on other sites have had the problem and it turned out to be this.
disconnect and reconnect it and see if it helps.
one other cause is bad engine grounds. loosen and retighten all the ones you can find in the engine compartment
