I have a 2001 focus 18 Ghia estate and recently I have been having a problem that has me baffled.

Every now and then if I gently take my foot of the accelerator I have a sudden loss in power and the speed dial needle drops to zero.

After a few seconds it goes back to what speed I am doing.

 

Any ideas
