TXFO alerted me to Team Focus a few weeks ago. He was in search of a new Zetec engine to replace the SPI now in his car. My employer has access to new, old stock engines and components from Ford and GM. Not everything is available just surplus or warranty-returned engines. Anyway, I told TXFO that I do have new Zetecs and 2.3 Ranger Duratec engines available and gave him a price with shipping that is hundreds of dollars less than the price you would pay at a dealership or through Ford Racing.
I did want to introduce myself and also provide my company's website. There is no mention of Zetecs and Duratecs but it provides information about the inline four cylinder engine block that we manufacture for Ford Racing and GM Performance Parts. You see, our block is machined by us to accept most V-8 small block cylinder heads...Ford, GM or Mopar. However, we try to offer to customers surplus OEM engines and components too.
PS...We are racers too and have fielded many types of circle-track race vehicles. Also, we have a museum located near Chapman, Kansas. See: http://www.kansasautoracingmuseum.org

Great to have more knowledge and of course another person on board. I hope you post often.
Now looking briefly at your post, can you supply surplus parts to engines? I know many of us are looking for Valve Covers as well as other bits and pieces.

There may be parts available. When you mention valve/cam cover, I assume you are looking for the older Zetec magnesium cover or is the newer black one in demand?
Perhaps something else?
I also notice by your profiles that some of you are located in the great northeast. Most all of the surplus engines and components are located in Detroit so they may be slightly cheaper to transport from there. I use Ford and GM's discount program with private carriers rather than have stuff sent to Kansas then out the door to it's new home.
Johnny Bolt, as you are the TF administrator, I'll forward an abbreviated list of current engine and components...from Ford and GM Surplus and some items here at KRP. You can post them if you feel they are worthwhile for TF members. KRP will make a donation to the TF website for each item sold.
I may be making a trip back east next month to cover the DIRT races at Syracuse NY and pick up a "retired" Pro-4 Modified. It would be nice to make it a paying trip at least one way. <chuckle>
Looked at your site and the KRP racing engine you guys produce. Nice site and informative. The in-line 4 reminds me of the old Ford 300CI in-line 6 but its hard to change how an in-line carborated motor looks. I like how you incorporated a small block V8 head on to this motor. One thing I noticed when reading is that you say it takes all ford small block heads but than mention it can take a 351C head. I know the 351C is a big block, does it have small block heads on it?
Also I am doing some research on ford big block FE parts. Would you guys carry anything for them or happen to have some (old) surplus??

Hi fx3,
Thanks for the compliments about our engine. Actually, the KRP block is an improved version of the old Pontiac Superduty-4 race engine and the earlier Chevy II four cylinder offered in the 1960s-70s.
I may be wrong but I believe the 351C (cleveland) and 351W (windsor) are both small block engines. As for incorporating small block heads, KRP simply makes a casting with enough metal to shift the bore centers and drill the head bolt holes to fit the appropriate head during the machining processes.
Email me a list of big block Ford items. There probably won't be anything over a few years old if you are looking for surplus engines/components...no big block Cobra side-oilers! :>
Will you consider quality core pieces that will need freshened with a little machining?
Unfortunatly I'm not a chevy or pontiac guy so I do not know anything about the models you've improved on.
What is the power that these 4 bangers put out? I know of someone here in New England possibly looking to take his focus to rear wheel drive but keeping a 4 banger in it.
Unfortunatly the last FE big block made for cars was in '71 and than the trucks got them up to '76. Just figured I would give it a shot.
I am about to attempt my first engine rebuild with a '72 390CI I have. Hoping to pump 300+ hp(flywheel) out of it and touque should be close to 400. I also have a 360CI sitting in the back yard and all that needs to make it a 390 or 427 is crank, rods, and pistons. I'm starting to scare myself with what I a have already found out/learned.

Our NHRA naturally aspirated drag customers, John Frecht, Al Ackerman, Gene Brown and others are making over 400 h.p. with a KRP engine block. In essence, they are using half of a Nascar or Pro-Stock engine. As they are rear-engine and rear-drive along with having weight and a displacement formula, the weight of an engine is not a factor...about 325 pounds total...block, head, crankshaft, etc. This compares to 245 pounds for a Zetec or 200 pounds for a Duratec.
Something that may work better for a rear-drive Focus would be the Zetec or Duratec mated to several choices of transmissions. I've been working with a manufacturer of adapters and conversion pieces...John Ehrlich of Al-Tech Precision, http://www.quad4rods.com . If someone really wanted to be different, they could use one of John's adapter plates to mate a Duratec with a VW transaxle and have a mid-engined Focus. I know you get a bit of snow in NH. How do you suppose a lightweight, mid-engine, rear-drive car would work in snow?

In the snow...... Probably not..... It would most likely not be a daily driver if it was converted to mid engine.....unless of course it was converted to all wheel drive also..
I can tell you've been doing this for a while.
I also did not know the duratec was that much lighter than the zetec. Its the 2.0 D your talking about right?
I had an original VW Bug that was rear engine/rear wheel drive that handled snow in Colorado very well. Ground clearance was essential to navigate in Winter. If I didn't get high-centered then traction was not a problem. This may be one reason so many sand buggys are rear engine/rear drive too.
As for 2.0 Focus Duratecs or 2.3 Ranger Duratecs...same weight, about 200 pounds.

I put a short list of available components and prices in the Group Purchase forum. There is much more but these are just Focus or Zetec-related engines and parts.
If anyone is interested in other items...Corvette LS-1 engine parts, complete Lincoln LS 3.9 dohc all-aluminum V-8 engines, race car components, etc, etc. please send me an email.
