Just thought I drop in and say hi. I really like my new ride so far. Had it for 2 months now. My first mod will be rims. I'm not going to do a lot to the car as far as mods. I'm probably a little older than the avg. member 50, years young, so my tastes will differ from younger members but to each his/her own. I'm young in mind - my other car is a Silver '91 Miata which I'll keep forever. So, help me out if I have some questions please.
I'm sure you'll find the people here very willing to help ya out if you have any questions about the new ride. I love the Sangria Red, it looks very nice, no the new 05 body style too.
What wheels are you looking at or is it more like "I want wheels, not sure which yet" kinda deal? Right off the bat I can tell ya you want to look for 4x108 wheels, not a lot of US cars use them, so watch out for that!
Thanks all for the welcome. Now, I have a question and most topic areas don't seem to be appropriate for.
I bought a locking gas cap just in case. Haven't driven car with it on yet. It fits fine but the threads are somewhat different than the OEM gas cap. Has anyone installed a locking gas cap on their Focus? I'm just wondering if I'm go to get a computer code notice. Car is new '05. Thanks in advance.
I don't know anyone that bought the lockign gas cap? You mean the exterior door or you replaced the little black plastic cap inside?
I have the PermaCap from BATinc, you cut the fuel cap on a leash and screw it on. I've had it on a few weeks now and no trouble codes for that. I would think if the cap is secure and tight it shouldn't trip the computer and throw a CEL.
In the future I'll keep my negative comments to myself but in many of the topic areas, they just don't have much traffic at all. It's not your fault and there's just not that much info on the '05 because not that many members of the TF forum own one.
My question, was reffering to the installing of a new lockable gas cap and what problems may arise with it(I don't think anyone woulf like to have $30 worth of gas syphoned out of their cars). Do all Focus models from 2000 on not have a locking fuel door? I've read where some Focus owners who don't screw on their gas caps tightly get a computer light or something of that nature. The locking gas caps is installed. If I have a problem, I'll post it on the forum.
No Focus (at least in the States) has ever come with a locking cap. Many modern cars well get an error if the gas cap isn't properly screwed on because it's part of the complex digital monitoring system, if it detects that ags vapors are escaping, it throws a light that something is wrong and there may be a leak for instance.
I'm not familiar with locking caps, I think a company just very recently produced a "Focus" one so very few people probably have it at this point. That's my understanding of the situation.
So far so good with lockable gas cap, no CEL's. With price of gas, I felt the need to protect my $30 fill ups. I'm sure we'll eventually start hearing stories abot stolen gas syphoned from parked cars (most cars now do have the interior latches for fuel door)I just wonder why they (Ford) decided to go away from the lockable fuel doors that open from interior latch.
As far as I know, all newer cars (from about 95 on) have a small ball in the neck of the filler to prevent a tube from reaching the tank, thus preventing syphoning.
Guess that answers, why fuel door doesn't need interior lock. I'm thinking about what happened back in 1974 when the gas prices jumped from 30 cents to 60 cents a gallon. My high school students don't believe me when I tell them about what I paid for gas when I was in H.S. in 1970. I then tell them, the hand held calculators weren't available for us to use either, they then replied "how did you do Math" . Technology is good only to a certain point! Thanks.
I just went back to look at your profile. I bet your saying , "boy is this guy old". My body is getting old but my mind still thinks I'm a kid" LOL!!! Later.
