Hello everyone,

After driving a sporty (yet slow) Fiat X1/9 for the first four summers of my legal driving career I made a switch to driving my trucks year-round. I have been building a 69 Bronco for a few years now so that will satisfy my desire for mud and sand on occasion. I also raced stock cars on a dirt oval for 3 or 4 years, part time.

The past two summers I have been racing Corvettes for people who want to see their cars do well on an autocross course but don't want to drive them (I do not understand this mentality, but I sure am appreciative for it). Needless to say, coupled with gasoline prices, my desire to get "sporty" again put the final nail in my 2001 Ford F150 Supercrew. To make a long story short, my wife gave up her Navigator for a Freestyle and I gave up my truck for a 2001 Focus ZX3.

My intentions for the car are to race it as often as possible as well as using it as a daily driver.

I have been hesitant to post because I don't know much about this little gem yet. I still don't even have a pitcure of it. It has a lower stance and aftermarket springs/shocks in the rear so I assume that it is lowered from stock (the first tiny snow storm had me dragging the bottom across little piles). I don't think anything has been done for performance under the hood, it still has the original air box and I assume that this would be the first thing to go. The resonator has been replaced by a straigh pipe but the rest of the exhaust looks pretty stock. I will be placing an ntirely new exhaust on this car before next spring - I think. I say "I think" because I will be leaning heavily on input from you folks on how to best set-up this car for autocross.

I'd like to know which class of Solo racing these cars fit into if slightly modified and how many of you have actually raced on a track or an autocross course.

If anyone is still reading, I am 36, married with 3 young kids and I live in Holland, MI. My little sister lives near the south-eastern most portion of PA so I envision a couple of trips to the East Coast this summer (2007) and could further see myself attending an event or two out there.

Thanks for reading tihs far,

Rob

Welcome! This may be a small board, but we're friendly and knowledgable.

Welcome to the Focus ownership club. Watch out, they're addicting.

I see a lot of suspension mods in your future.

Thanks, I'll be here often and I have every intention of participating as a contributor, not just a leach.

I'm accustomed to building my own equipment because the cost of building an off road vehicle an quickly get out of hand if you can't do things for yourself.
