A BIG hello to everyone. I'm Carlos and I'm new in cars and this is my first form that I have joined. I have a 2000 Focus with a Ztec engine. I love my car and now that it is paid off it now starting to give me a few problems. I like to work on the car myself, but I'm new at it.
Problem: Under a load my poor car wants to shut off on me. It doesn't do it all the all
the time. Took the car the mechanic and he said it was my alternator. That
was a dickens to do and it took 2 day alot of praying, but I did it! Yeah for
me. It still doing the same thing. Also I'm getting shock everytime I get
out of the car.
If anyone has any suggestions on what this can be or where I can start at to find a solution please, please let me know. I'll be waiting.
Not muthc to go on but most of the 2000's have a recall on the fuel pump. It could cause the problem on hard takeoffs. Another problem could be the DPFE sensor. The sensor will throw a CEL light on but sometimes it can go bad before the CEL light comes on. Those are to big things I can think off off the top of my head besides the normal maintenance items such as plugs wires and possible coil pack(not maintenance item but in the ball park and can cause what you are describing as well). Check and probably change your PCV valve. A $3 item that's easy to change and a good yearly item to change.
As for getting shocked. In the winter it happens to me all the time. I think its just the car. There is a grounding upgrade that can be done to the car but I am not sure if it will fix the "gettign shocked" problem. I've just come to expect it and perpously get shocked when I get out. That way I know and it dosen't scare/startle me.
