so, i went and spent $537 shipped for some tires i had known nothing about, brand new this year..i had heard a lot about the rt-215 (previous style tire) and ridden along in an auto x with them on the car on a 14" wheel, what a difference. i debated over the yokohama es100, the toyo proxes t1s, bridgetsone KDW/TA 2 ... it was a long hard debate, having erad a lot about the other tires. so out of impulse more or less, i bought the Azenis, knowing theyre name in auto x.
i put them on yesterday for a test drive, see how they handled on a road situation. the ride is incredibly smooth for a low treadwear rated tire, and the handling...feels like the car is on a train track attached to rails. corners i used to take at 50, can now take 60+/- . with the sidewalls cmposed they way they are, with steel/poly combo, the sideall is so stiff, and makes the suspension change that much more worth it..the first auto x will be the "true" test, but for anyone looking for a good handling tire for auto x, i think this is a good bet on this car. gets my
Coolness. Thanks for the review. I am going to check more into those tires that you mentioned. Currently I am running the stock Pirelli P6's in the 205/50/16
P.S. - rain + azenis = hydroplanathon! every little bit of standing water hit at 65mph makes your car hydroplane pretty good. definately not a choice for a daily driving performance tire (unless you live in a desert with no rain)
these Falkens are kick A__, they are as good (or better) brand new, out of the box then my Kuhmo MX's were when they had 2/32 tread.
my first run on our practice course was over a full second faster then on the Kumho's at their best. I highly reccommend these tires for autocrossing. They still have a slight tendency to loose grip when hot, but not as much as the ST-215's, while the Kumho's were at their best when hot.
