Alright...after an eternity of having this stuff sit around in my car, I finally got a chance to put it in. I had originally heard you only need a quart to fill, but the service manual says to fill until you see the liquid level and well...that didn't happen until I was filled with the second quart. Draining and filling is done by removing drain plugs in the transaxle and doing your thing. I'm not even sure I got it in the right ones, but I only saw two holes, so the drain was the lowest one, and the fill the highest. The old Ford stuff didn't look bad really, at least not color wise, but regardless I've never liked it. I did some figure eights with the stuff in the transaxle to spread it out good, and thats about all. Then I filled the tank, and waited.................and waited........ and waited.
Finally, after 284 miles I was about halfway between 1/4 tank and empty. I headed to the gas station. I filled her up and used 9.650 gallons of the cheap stuff (not so cheap anymore ) That totals me out at 29.43mpg. My driving has been the same as always, back and forth to work as usual (half highway, half backroads, not a lot of stop and go, but some). Now, the kicker is...while this is a normal gas mileage for me with my 15" wheels on there, my average gas mileage with the 17" wheels is greatly less than that...ballpark puts it between 24 and 25 mpg...whether that be from me actually driving it harder, the increased friction (the cupping issue I have), or the overall increase in rolling inertia I don't know. But the fact still remains I was at 24.8mpg on my previous tanks, before I add this in there. So to say this was a positive change is right on the money.
Other things to mention, the tranny seems quieter, I used to hear alot of clicking and popping when I was moving the shifter through it's paces, haven't had so much of that, and I haven't had any real problems quick shifting into third, where I would occasionally get some grinding from the 3rd gear synchro. Overall, these are the only real differences I've seen. But I'd have to say I'm pretty happy with this choice.
It does make quite a difference. My fuel consumption seems to be lower than most, 30-33 miles per US Gallon, but there was an improvement when I switched trannny fluid to Mobil1.
Larger wheels can have quite an effect on fuel consumption especially in stop and go driving. I couldn't find a satisfactory wheel/tire combination in 17" that weighed the same as the 16 inch combination so got rid of the 17" set that I had.

Just changed out my tranny fluid to Royal Purple Syncromax, shiftds smoother and is quieter. This is something every foci owner should do, and it doesn't take that long.
Hey Joe, when you changed your fluid did you have trouble finding the drain plug? Man, did Ford do a good job hiding it.
