the ziex 512 line in 15" 60 have a 60k treadwear and H speed rating. these offer excellent road adhesion both wet and dry. they are directional so traction in reverse is very limited when not dry. tire is also a pretty quiet one even on concrete.

first thing with them is trying to find a correct pressure. sidewall says the max pressure is 51 psi. when bought the store had them at max, which was not a good thing. due to overinflation the tires were too hard and would slide easily. at 32 psi the sidewalls were on the road and the tires would roll in any turning situation. after some guesswork and testing it was found they were best at 42-44 psi on the focus.

now for the bad news on these tires...
:?
60k treadwear is not going to happen. the set i have were rotated at 5k. these begin life with 10/32 tread depth. after 10,300 miles two are at 4/32, one is at 6/32, and one has been replaced due to road hazzard.

falcon was contacted by the dealer and told of the problem. falcons response was to do nothing until down to 2/32 tread and then replace (so another 5k miles or so yet).

the one thing i disliked was the road hazzard. knowing of the wear problem i still had to pay a prorated sum on a tire that was down to 63% tread to get it replaced ( a speed rated tire totally loses its speed rating when patched or plugged.).

overall, i really like the tires. excellent grip, quiet, smooth ride.

Sorry to hear about the problem you have had w/ the Ziex 512's. I have those on my second focus ZX3 w/ the 16inch rims. Have not had a single problem w/ them and they are awesome in the snow, rain and dry pavement.

Sorry about the issues with your tires.  Have you had your alignment checked?  I know I did as soon as I could after having my tires and rims put on and it was WAY off.  Common problem witht he focus and tire wear.  You may want to check out a dealer and have them run your vin to check and see if your car is in the TSB lot of those with poor Camber.

Thanks for the review though!  Let's see more ppl!

an update on these tires.

what a waste of money in my opinion. 25k and down to the treadwear bars already. replaced them today due to a belt breaking in one and the treadwear. this company will come up with anything not to replace, especially since the dealer ( a goodyear store) told them i have done some hard driving on them (duh, they are a performance tire).and since the dealer thought it cute to say that thinking i'd get pissed and buy new tire from them, i took my business elsewhere. so long goodyear...

went back to firestones.

I've never had these tires, but I'd heard they were really good. Thanks for the heads up. Next time I need tires, I'll remember this post.

I had those, and they all lasted short. Basically just ended up punctured, but I liked the design.

Sucks that these didn't work out - I'm thrilled with my Kumhos - Exta ASX's.

Fantastic grip on dry pavement, little by the way of tracking and beautiful in the rain.  All season too. :D

Hope you have a better experience with your Firestones

went to the firestone affinity ls30 tire. don't have the same grip as the falcons but seem to be a bit smoother riding.

main reason i went to firestone is it is a corporate chain and warranty and road hazzard are good at any firestone store in the states. bought the falcons through a goodyear store here which is a locally owned chain, their road hazzard is only good through the chain. if i was in another state it would come out of my pocket, then i would have to deal with the local place to get my money back. being i do travel occasionally(every couple mos) firestone was more appealing to me.

besides, one good thing about the falcons going south on me, i have new tires for winter.:P

guess i shouldn't put all the blame on the tires. most should go on the dealer for not wanting to do anything about the problems i was having with the broken belt and the wear (some of which was due to me. but still thought they shoulda gone at least 30-40k. (60k treadwear).

and by the way. tires were put on saturday and today brakes and a full alignment were done (always do an align when i get new tires).

I got the firestone/bridgestone Potenzas in the 16", smoother ride than the firehawks:P
