This guy travels occasional and lives in a pretty dusty environment.  His last oil analysis showed a silicon level of 24ppm and I recommended that he change his filter at that point.  Amsoil doesnt make a foam filter for this vehicle so he just bought a motorcraft air filter and it has brought the levels down considerably considering the environment he's in, but Im going to keep working on that because I would like to see it about 25 - 30% lower.

His last report also showed a fuel dilution of 1.5% which prompted me to have him change the oil.  He was concerned he had a mechanical issue but I assured him it was most likely idle time for warm ups (last analysis was in the winter) and now we have the confirmation of that

He is close to needing to change out this oil as well with a TBN of 3.93.  I dont think he's going to make it to the fall/winter months so I'll probably have him change it out when I get back from Florida in August.  I think he could have made it longer but his Oxidation and Nitration numbers are a bit higher and Im thinking that it is due to 1.) needing to change the PCV and 2.) the oil is going in and cleaning out some stuff that the oil is having to neutralize.  Those numbers should go back down and stabilize.  Nitration will cause sludge and varnish formation and this will cause the additive package and TBN to be depleted.  Oxidation will cause viscosity shift (thickening) if it gets out of control.

Anyway, there ya have it.
