My wife lost her damn keys the other day. left them on the car when I drove off. So now I only have one PATS key. I'm getting another one off the web soon but I needs a program. how much is typically charged for this? From looking around, it seems like some locksmiths can do programming? How much does the dealer charge so I can shop around the local tradesmen.

The dealer 4 didn't charge anything, cause it's supposed 2 be under warranty as well. :)

Yea I would definatly check with your dealer. I needed a new one made myself and they dd it bc I only got one key with the car. However, it was brand new and if the warranty thing is true, I would have been covered. But, it never hurts to find out.

I can't remember the exact price they quoted me. It was a year ago when I went looking for another key. I do remember however that it was so much that I changed my mind about getting one. If I'm remembering correctly they said they couldn't make me a new key with just the one I have now. That it takes 2 keys to make one. :? or something to that effect. And the price would be for 2 new keys and a new programmed code. If you find out something different let me know (the dealership here has been wrong MANY times so it wouldn't surprise me that you hear something else)

I thought you could do this by sitting in the car and going through a bunch of crap, or was that for the FOB?

I remember reading something to the effect that you could use someone else's keys from another focus to reprogram yours to make copies yourself. But you still needed 2 keys with the same programming and then whoever you borrowed the keys from would be able to use them on your car. I think...I might be getting it confused with something else. It's been a while since I've looked into this. So someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm right

In order to program a blank PATS key, you need the two original keys. If you look at your keys, on the metal right near the head, is a #1 or #2. Somehow they must have programmed in an A and B key. I have no idea. In any case, I called a place called street keys and they told me they could program a blank PATs key for me without the 2 originals for 60 bucks. Im gonna call around town and see about other locksmiths. I mean look, I posted a PATS burner, so obviously you can get it done without buying 2 new keys. I think the dealer just dosent have a machine and dosent care enough to find out about buring just one key.

$60 bucks seems about right.  When I got my car, I only had one key and the dealer charged close to $80 for the key and the programming.

My dealer said $75 to program another key, he told me you only needed the car and one key.  He could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time he was.

Went down to the dealer in Seguin Texas (town I work in). He told me it was 75$ for the key and programming and 35$ if I just want the programming. So kickass, I'm gonna get a key off the web and take it to them.

for future reference, the part number for an ILCO transponder key for our car is. H86-PT.  Ive seen some sites selling the H72-PT as the focus key. However, the H72 is good for most fords, just not the focus. We use an encrypted code, not the fixed code the other ones use.

ILCO H86-PT

 Whoa! I paid $32 to have mine programmed. hmm

The thing is, when you lose one key, the other has to be reprogrammed to match the new one.

Sorry, that sux, and accidents happen - at least it's not like my situation, where my bitter b@stard ex husband threw a full set, fob and all, with house keys & work keys into the Casco Bay River!  Phucker! :X

If you had two keys - all you would have to do is do the #1 / #2 key programming after having it cut as mentioned.
