Fuel Pump Problems for '00 & '01 Foci
Ford just sent out a letter indicating a concern about fuel pumps installed in the 2000 and 2001 Ford Focus.
Program 03N01 - Possible Engine Stalling in 2000 and 2001 Ford Focus Vehicles
Attached is a letter announcing the details of a no-charge program Ford Motor Company will be conducting concerning your vehicle's fuel pump. We have found that some 2000 and 2001 Ford Focus vehicles may experience symptoms of engine hesitation, loss of power, surging and other similar symptoms as a result of progressive contamination of the fuel pump filters.

To address this issue, Ford is developing a new design fuel pump, which we expect to have available by late January 2004
The letter goes on about current vehicle performance and a recommended action(s).

If you've paid to have your fuel pump replaced before the date of the letter, Ford Motor Co. is offering a refund. In addition this offer is valid for a period of 10 years from the original warranty start date of the vehicle with no limit of mileage.

I think they cover it for the life of the car. It's tracked by the VIN #. Most recalls are. I have never heard of the 10 year thing before.

I hate to say it, but I've never rec'd one of the letters....but most warranty work is avail. to owners for either a limit of time or milage.

My '92 4Runner had a recall on it for the valve covers and it was limited by 100k miles.  I bought her w/ 72k on her, but they fixed the recall work before I drove her off the lot because I could hear the unusual ticking noise in the engine bay to one side.

I would call Ford cust. Service for verification of limits.

Im happy they fixed my fuel pump, I couldn't race if my tank was less than half full. But I learned one thing! Appearently with the springs and set-up that I have, I have to run with a full tank of gas in the car or a passenger over 150lbs. to get the balance right! So it came out better!
